Kraven the Hunter is in theaters now. And given what is expected to be an under-$15 million opening weekend, chances are you aren’t hunting for the Sony/Marvel movie in theaters. So when will Kraven the Hunter be available to stream? What is the Kraven the Hunter streaming release date? And more importantly, when can you stream Kraven the Hunter online free?
The answer, since we’re writing this on Saturday morning is: nobody knows. But before you immediately click out of this article… I will say we have a fairly educated guess about the streaming release date, based on dates for similar releases, like Madame Web and Venom: The Last Dance.
So yeah, Sony has not announced the streaming release date yet. But we’ve been right on the money with both of the previous Sony/Marvel movies… So indulge us as we show our work here, and let you know when we think it’s likely Kraven the Hunter will be available for PVOD (Premium Video on Demand), on Netflix, and whether it will head to Disney+.
When Will Kraven The Hunter Be Streaming? Here’s Our Educated Guess About The Kraven The Hunter Streaming Release Date
Let’s talk about PVOD first, aka when you can pay (usually) $20-$25 to either rent or own the movie, aka the first time a movie hits streaming. Sony is a little all over the place with their PVOD windows. Some studios are more rigidly consistent, but Sony does have a clear pattern.
If a movie is considered a hit, even a minor one, it comes out about 46 days after theatrical release. It Ends With Us, which was released in theaters on August 9, did pretty well at the box office and hit PVOD on September 24, 46 days later. More to the point, Venom: The Last Dance wasn’t a runaway hit like the previous two movies in the series, but it did okay internationally. It was released on October 25, and sure enough hit PVOD 46 days later on December 10.
So, what about Kraven the Hunter? If the movie does bomb this weekend, I’d expect it to hold to a pattern closer to other Sony fizzles. Harold and the Purple Crayon, which didn’t exactly — wink, wink — draw people to theaters was released on August 2, and hit PVOD on August 27, aka 25 days later. And continuing on the Sony/Marvel thing, Madame Web hit theaters on February 14, 2024, and then PVOD on March 15, 2024, aka 30 days later.
Currently, with Kraven expected to open around $12-$13 million for the weekend, that’s lower than Madame Web‘s $17.6 million, though above Harold‘s dismal $6 million opening. Regardless, it’s a fair bet to say Kraven will drop on streaming in a similar window.
To that end, 25 days after December 13, 2024 is January 7, 2025 (streaming releases usually drop on a Tuesday). 30 days after is over a weekend, so if Sony wants to stretch things out a little, they could go 32 days and release Kraven on January 14, 2025. I think the former date — January 7 — is more likely given how badly the movie is doing this weekend. But if it has any sort of legs over the holidays, it’s possibly they might give it an extra week before dropping on PVOD.
When Will Kraven The Hunter Be On Netflix? When Will Kraven The Hunter Be Online Free?
After hitting PVOD, Kraven the Hunter will head to Netflix for its Pay-1 window. That’s usually 120 days after theatrical release. However, true to form, Sony is all over the place with these releases — even moreso than the PVOD window.
Morbius hit Netflix about five months after release. Madame Web three months after release. And Venom 3‘s Netflix release date has yet to be announced so we can’t use that as a data point.
But, similar to the theatrical to PVOD window, it seems that Sony bases when they send something to Netflix at least in part on how well it does in theaters. If they do wait 120 days, Kraven the Hunter will be on Netflix on April 12, 2025, or thereabouts. More likely, however, I’d expect it to drop three months later… Particularly since Madame Web became a hit Netflix after bombing in theaters. If that holds, Kraven the Hunter could be on Netflix as soon as March 12, 2025.
When Will Kraven The Hunter Be On Disney+?
Disney+ is in Sony’s pay-2 window, meaning once they’re done on Netflix — around 18 months later. To use an example, Morbius hit Disney+ on March 1, 2024, just under two years from when it hit theaters. Madame Web has yet to hit Disney+. And Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which came out in theaters on June 2, 2023, also is not on Disney+.
So when will Kraven the Hunter hit Disney+? 18 months after release puts the movie in June of 2026, which seems like the earliest we’ll see Kraven the Hunter sitting next to some, but not all of the Spider-Man movies on the streamer — though it could be a longer wait than that.
