Iron Man Changes Name To The Insurgent Iron Man:
Marvel’s Iron Man title is changing its name. Per writer Spencer Ackerman, who revealed the cover to issue #6, it’ll become The Insurgent Iron Man.
As posted on Bluesky, Ackerman simply noted, “So this is public…” along with the publication date in March, and Yasmine Putri’s cover to the issue. In case you’re wondering about the title change, it’s under the One World Under Doom heading, so likely Tony Stark is leading the charge against the new Emperor of Earth, Doctor Doom.
And in fact, per the synopsis that’s exactly what is happening — despite the rest of the world liking what Doom is laying down. And beyond some “unlikely allies” joining him, Marvel teases the arc will, “turn legacy on its head for a story that will shatter Iron Man’s status quo. Don’t miss history in the making!”
Bold words! We’ll know more when the issue debuts in March.
Red Sonja Attacks Mars:
Red head, meet red planet as Dynamite is bringing the classic Mars Attacks! back to take on the She-Devil With a Sword in Red Sonja Attacks Mars!
A sequel to Mars Attacks Red Sonja, the new series will be written by Jay Stephens, with art by Fran Strukan.
Said Stephens via press release: “I’m having such a blast! It feels like you could see me drooling over my Norman Saunders (the original Mars Attacks! card creator) art book, which I do more often than would be considered sane. Campy, horrifying, mid-century, and notorious does seem to be my vibe. I’m always striving for that reimagined nostalgia… a sort of irreverent reverence for the things that haunted me as a kid.”
In the series, Sonja is once again down and out when she discovers a prophecy that fortells the destruction of the world. So she travels past the desert, way south, until she takes on the invaders from Mars. Per PR, “Along the way she will face trials too, serpent-men, metamorlocks, and ancient monster-gods in her path.”
The first issue will be polybagged with collectible trading cards featuring titleless variants of the respective covers. Red Sonja Attacks Mars! will hit stores in March, 2025.
Comic Book Creators Celebrate Birthdays:
Looking for something to celebrate this weekend? Look no further, as multiple comic book creators are celebrating their birthdays this weekend.
Today, December 13 is Kyle Baker’s birthday. The writer/artist known for Plastic Man turns 59 years old, and that makes it a great opportunity to check out Plastic Man if you never have.
Then on December 14, Tiny Onion impresario James Tynion IV turns 37 years old, which is also the number of comic books he’s writing right now. And on Sunday, December 15, Reginald Hudlin, best known for a lauded run on Black Panther turns 63, and shares a birthday — and age — with artist Stuart Immonen.
And not to end this celebration on a sad note, but John Cassaday would have turned 53 on December 14, if he hadn’t suddenly passed away earlier this year. Still, you can spend Saturday browsing his art if you like, as a tribute.
