James Gunn Confirms Mike Flanagan’s ‘Clayface’ Is A DCU Movie, Premieres In 2026

Clayface

Just yesterday, we brought you the news that a Mike Flanagan written Clayface movie, based on the Batman villain, was moving forward at DC Studios. And now, the news has not only been confirmed by James Gunn, heads of DC Studios, but he’s revealed that it will premiere in 2026… And is part of the DCU.

Gunn said as much on Bluesky, posting, “Exciting news out of DC Studios today as #Clayface, a DCU story from a script by Mike Flanagan, has been OFFICIALLY greenlit. Clayface premieres in 2026.”

That’s the news, now here’s the weather… Since this movie is part of the DCU, and therefore not connected to Matt Reeves’s The Batman/The Penguin universe, it means it instead connects to Creature Commandos, Superman, and more. The bigger news? That means we already know who is most likely playing Clayface: Alan Tudyk.

Mild spoilers for Creature Commandos past this point, but it’s already been confirmed that Tudyk will be playing the voice of Clayface in an upcoming episode of the series. And the whole M.O. of Gunn’s DCU is that the people who play the voices in animation also play the roles in live action. If Tudyk is doing the voice of Clayface on Creature Commandos, therefore he has to play the role in the 2026 movie, right?

Well… Maybe. Confusing things a little, Gunn has also all but confirmed the rumor that Tudyk is playing a role in the live action Superman movie. It certainly could be Clayface that he’s playing there, or it could be Will Magnus, which Tudyk also does the voice of on Creature Commandos. Or perhaps as another possibility, the Clayface movie focuses on a different character becoming the Batman villain than in Creature Commandos. Or, honestly, they just cast someone else, that’s possible, too.

Regardless, if you want some sense of what to expect from the Flanagan written (but not directed) Clayface movie, stay tuned to future episodes of Creature Commandos. And for the movie, as we’re getting pretty close to 2026.
