Gwen Stacy is heading to space in an upcoming arc of Marvel’s Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider series. And in a stunning turn of events, nowhere in the provided press release does Marvel refer to her as “Gwen Spacey.”
Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Paolo Villanelli, in March the title will kick off an arc titled “Ghost-Spider Beyond” in Spider-Gwen: the Ghost Spider #11. In it, Gwen heads to the stars, where she’ll “come across unimaginable power and the only thing stopping her from using it to fix all her life’s problems is Loki!”
“I envisioned a Gwen and Loki storyline from the beginning of my work on Gwen, so this arc feels like the culmination of everything we’ve been building toward,” Phillips said via press release. “Taking Gwen to space has allowed us to explore some unexpected elements of her character, especially as her optimism and hope clashes with King Loki’s nihilism. Paolo and I have worked hard to make this a unique sci-fi adventure—one that’s dark and very personal to Gwen.”
Not only will this be a new status quo and team-up for Gwen, but Mark Brooks is giving cosplayers everywhere a brand new Ghost-Spider costume to wear at upcoming conventions with the spacesuit designed for this arc. I guess there are also story reasons, but come on, this is (pun intended) tailor made for cosplay:
