This is Comic Book Club News for December 5, 2024.

DC’s Absolute Universe Tops November Sales Charts:

For the second month in a row, DC Comics has topped the sales charts with two Absolute Universe titles. And in November, that was Absolute Superman #1 at number one, and Absolute Batman #2 at number two.

Per ICv2, the Absolute titles were only part of the continued DC resurgence, with the publisher capturing 17 of the Top 50 titles — a big change from where they were just two months prior. Other DC titles hitting the chart include Absolute Wonder Woman #2 at number six, Justice League Unlimited #1 at number seven, and The Question: All Along the Watchtower sneaking in at number 49.

Marvel wasn’t too shabby, though, with 26 titles on the Top 50, with Ultimate Spider-Man at number four, Amazing Spider-Man at number five, and Uncanny X-Men, Ultimates, and Aliens Vs. Avengers all making the Top 10 as well.

The biggest non-Big Two title was G.I. Joe #1 from Skybound and Image Comics, which debuted at number three on the charts. Transformers and The Walking Dead Deluxe also charted from Image. TMNT #5 and the TMNT x Naruto crossover hit the charts from IDW. And BOOM! Studios nabbed one slot for Something is Killing the Children #0.

With no new #1 from Absolute in December, will DC continue their domination? Stay tuned.

Dog Man Creator Dav Pilkey’s Original Book Gets A Reprint:

If you’re not a kid or a parent, you may not know Dog Man is one of the biggest, best-selling graphic novel series in the world. And in 2025, it’s going to get even bigger with the theatrical release of the Dog Man movie.

To celebrate the occasion, Pilkey’s first graphic novel, The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby is getting a reprint for the first time since 2014. Like Dog Man and Captain Underpants, the book — which was first released in 2002 — is ostensibly the creation of George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two kids with overactive imaginations. The new edition will hit stores in August of 2025.

As for Dog Man, a new book, Big Jim Begins has just hit stores this week, and another new book, Big Jim Believes will hit stores in Fall of 2025. In between, the movie will hit theaters on January 31, 2025, and to celebrate Scholastic Graphix will distribute 50,000 copies of Big Jim Begins to students, via literacy programs.

Dark Horse Comics To Publish Jeff Lemire Memoir, 10,000 Ink Stains:

Jeff Lemire is an emotionally charged and prolific creator who often pulls on his own background for books. But in Dark Horse’s 10,000 Ink Stains, he’ll get more personal than ever before.

The illustrated memoir will, per PR, share “his winding path to success via a book-by-book and step-by-step journey of sketches, previously unpublished materials, essays, archives and more.”

That will include such highlights as “An intimate look at Lemire’s personal life, and his struggles with his mental health,” “accounts of what it’s really like to work for DC and Marvel Comics,” “insights into the adaptation of Sweet Tooth for Netflix,” and more.

10,000 Ink Stains will hit stores on July 15, 2025.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And are we meant to believe that Lemire has counted all his ink stains? I think not.
