Image Comics is, as always, releasing unique and varied comics in December, 2024. From big returns like Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Snotgirl to the continued blockbuster Energon Universe from Skybound, there’s a little something for everyone.

With that in mind, here are our picks for the 14 books you don’t want to miss from Image Comics in December 2024, presented in chronological release order.

1. Juvenile #1

Written and illustrated by Rosa filmmaker Jesús Orellana, Juvenile takes place in a world where adults secretly suppress kids’ telekinetic abilities with drugs. Sounds like a potent sci-fi metaphor! But will the book Juvenile get you to back that azz up? Stay tuned.

2. Snotgirl #16

Release Date: December 4, 2024

After an extremely long break, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Leslie Hung’s purposefully off-putting fashion influencer satire is back with issue #16. It’ll be interesting to see, in particular, how this title has changed (if at all) given the rapid changes is social media since the comic last appeared.

3. What’s The Furthest Place From Here? #20

Matthew Rosenberg and Tyler Boss take their post-apocalyptic teens into a whole new world in this issue, after the major revelations of the last arc. If you haven’t been reading the most fascinating youth-in-revolt title on the stands… Well, go back and start from the beginning, because otherwise you’re going to be pretty lost.

4. Dread The Halls #0

They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but come on: that cover is pretty rad. The anthology features holiday horror stories by Jordan Hart, Chris Ryall, and more.

5. Transformers #15

The red-hot series continues with a new arc, and Jorge Corona returning on art. This time, to shake things up, the Autobots will be battling the Decepticons.

6. The One Hand & The Six Fingers TP

While the rest of this list is single issues, here’s a must-buy trade collection this month. The volume includes all issues of The One Hand and The Six Fingers, two linked miniseries that show opposite sides of a neo-noir mystery. The trade will collect the issues chronologically, which is the way it’s meant to be read. And trust me when I say you’re A) going to love this, and B) think you know where it’s going, but you definitely do not.

7. Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale #1

Luana Vecchio’s twisted, adults-only tale of revenge in the age of live-streaming gets a prequel series with Doll Parts. Wonder how someone grows up to torture, maim and kill men while having them beg for her to do it? You can find out here.

8. Deadly Tales Of The Gunslinger Spawn #1

Deadly Tales Of The Gunslinger Spawn #1

Release Date: December 18, 2024

The Spawn with the tallest hat takes center stage in this new Western series from Jimmy Palmiotti and Patric Reynolds. Given Palmiotti wrote a fantastic western run on Jonah Hex, this should be a good one.

9. Freddie The Fix #1

Ninth Circle is yet another pop-up imprint through Image, but this is a fun one focused on horror one-shots. The first out of the gate is from Garth Ennis and Mike Perkins, and is all about the title character, who gets supernatural creatures out of jams.

10. The Moon Is Following Us #4

The Moon Is Following Us #4

Release Date: December 18, 2024

A superb gut-punch of a series from Daniel Warren Johnson and Riley Rossmo, it focuses on two parents desperately trying to save their daughter from the dream world she’s trapped in. Beautifully drawn, with an emotional cliffhanger every issue that only digs deeper each time out.

11. The Horizon Experiment: Motherfu*kin’ Monsters

The Horizon Experiment has been a barn burner so far, with genre stories tweaked and flipped on their head with strong cultural differences. This time, J. Holtham and Michael Lee Harris present an “Evil Dead for black nerds.”

12. G.I. Joe #2

The culmination of Skybound’s Energon Universe continues after the shocking cliffhanger in issue one. This time, to shake things up, G.I. Joe will be battling Cobra.

13. The Power Fantasy #5

There is no better world-building in comics right now than The Power Fantasy. Focusing on six superhumans who must never meet or risk the end of the world, this issue turns the focus to Jacky Magus, who the title is teasing as the ultimate sell-out.

Release Date: December 26, 2024

Maria Llovet’s violent, sexy vampire tale comes to a close in this issue. There is no more unique creator working in comics today, particularly for an adult audience, than Llovet.
