The Energon Universe from Skybound and Image Comics goes hard. And now it’ll go even harder thanks to three Energon Universe deluxe hardcovers collecting the hit series, all to be released in 2025.
First up is Transformers Deluxe Edition Book One, which collects the first 12 issues of the hit series by Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona and Mike Spicer. In the series, per PR provided to Comic Book Club, “The Autobots and Decepticons have renewed their endless war on Earth, and one thing is immediately clear: the planet will never be the same. New alliances are struck. Battle lines are redrawn. And humanity’s only hope of survival is Optimus Prime.”
The book is priced at $49.99, and will hit comic shops on April 30, 2025, in advance of a bookstores release on May 13, 2025.
Then there’s outer space series Void Rivals, which will also get a Deluxe Edition Book One collecting 12 issues of the series, plus material from the Energon Universe 2024 Special, all by Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici. Per Skybound, “War rages around the Sacred Ring, where the last remnants of two worlds have collapsed around a black hole in a never-ending war. However, when pilot Darak and his rival Solila both crash on a desolate planet, these two enemies end up on a journey neither of them expected. What dark forces await them? And will they be able to put aside their differences to confront them together?”
This will also cost $49.99, and hit comic book shops on May 21, 2025, then bookstores on June 3, 2025.
The most intriguing volume, though, is Codename: G.I. JOE Deluxe Edition Book One. This collects all five issues of the Duke miniseries, and the Cobra Commander series. Notably not included are the Destro or Scarlett miniseries, which tells the full story leading up to G.I. Joe #1. Likely those would come in a prospective Book Two, but that’s pure speculation.
Both series are written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Tom Reilly and Andrea Milana, respectively. Per the PR, “Conrad ‘Duke’ Hauser made first contact with a Transformer and lived to tell the tale. Now, one of the US Army’s most decorated soldiers is on the hunt for answers, drawn into a conflict that no amount of training could prepare him for.
“Meanwhile, one man’s sinister plans utilize the mysterious alien substance known as Energon sends shockwaves across the globe. Who is Cobra Commander? Where does he come from? And what horrors is he planning to unleash that will rock the world—and maybe the universe—to its core?”
The book will cost — you guessed it — $49.99, and will hit comic book shops on June 11, 2025, followed by bookstores on June 24, 2025.

Do we know if there will be paperback versions as well?
Most of them are already out in paperback! I think Destro is still coming later, but Transformers, Void Rivals, Scarlett, Duke and Cobra Commander are all available now.
