Dynamite’s Savage Tales is back for Winter Special 2025. And it’s bringing along three new stories of genre pulp fiction from writer David Avallone — and one archive story from the legendary Kurt Busiek.
“This was a great opportunity for me to go back to a trio of characters I’ve always enjoyed writing,” said Avallone via press release provided to Comic Book Club. “I’ve been a fan of John and Dejah since discovering them in my early teens. Vampirella was the first comics character I ever wrote, and I’ll always have a special affection for her. Finally, Dynamite gave me a chance to imagine a new future for Gullivar Jones in previous issues of Savage Tales, and I continue that story here.”
First up is “Mutiny on Mars,” featuring John Carter and Dejah Thoris, drawn by Eman Casallos. Then Captain Gullivar Jones in “His War,” drawn by Hamish Munro-Cook. And Vampirella bites into the third story “The Real Thing, drawn by Mariano Benitez-Chapo.
Those are all written by Avallone, and there will also be a reprint of “Seeing Red” starring Red Sonja, by Kurt Busiek and Benjamin Dewey. That story was originally printed in Red Sonja: Black, White, Red.
The issue will feature covers by Arthur Suydam, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon, which you can check out below. Savage Tales: Winter 2025 Special hits stores in February, 2025.
