Oni Press is on a tear lately with announcing new series and one-shots. The latest? Mine is a Long, Lonesome Grave #1, the kick-off of a new Appalachian revenge-horror series debuting in February from Justin Jordan and Chris Shehan.
“I don’t get an opportunity to do as much crime as I want…” said Jordan via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Wait, no, I mean I don’t get a chance to do as much crime FICTION as I would like, so getting to do a crime book that is also a horror book, my other favorite genre, has been awesome. And getting to set it in Appalachia, where I’m from, is just icing on the very brutal cake.”
In the series, we meet Harley Creed, a “bad man” who “used to be worse.” After being released from prison, he wants to leave his hometown… But due to the “low-level folk magic” that resides in Briar Falls, WV, his crimes have come back to haunt him — literally. Now, with a hex on him, Harley has seven days before he dies, and can only reverse the curse by killing his “unseen enemy.”
“Crime? Revenge? Witchcraft and hexes? This is a book I was meant to draw,” added Shehan.
Mine Is A Long, Lonesome Grave #1 hits stores in February 2025, featuring covers by Shehan, Matthew Roberts, Kelsey Ramsay, Jeffrey Alan Love, and Jason Shawn Alexander. Check them out, as well as three unlettered pages, below. Click for larger versions.
