‘Metal Hurlant’ Returns With This Exclusive Trailer For Humanoids’ Kickstarter

Metal Hurlant

Back in 1975, an upstart publisher named Les Humanoïdes Associés released Metal Hurlant, a cutting edge sci-fi comics anthology. And now, 50 years later, Metal Hurlant is back from Humanoids, on Kickstarter. And Comic Book Club has an exclusive look at the trailer for the project, featuring stunning art from the book.

In just a few short days, the Kickstarter for the rebooted, English version of the anthology has hit over $225,000 (as of this writing) on a $5,000 goal. And why wouldn’t it? The quarterly anthology boasts an insane array of talent, including stories from Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Karla Pacheco, James Stokoe, Fabien Vehlmann, and Mark Waid. And that’s just some of the new stuff. There’s also archival material from Mœbius, Philippe Druillet and Jean-Pierre Dionnet, a Robert Crumb comic about Philip K. Dick, and essays from Alan Moore, Denis Villeneuve, William Gibson, and more.

Metal Hurlant’s ongoing mission is to enthrall readers, explore new paths and publish bold and transgressive storytellers,” said Humanoids Publisher Fabrice Giger via press release. “The vast majority of the material in Metal Hurlant will be original, but bringing archival content—such as Mœbius’ short stories—back into print allows us to introduce some of the most iconic cartoonists of all time to a new generation. Our intention is to curate the reading experience with gems from Metal Hurlant’s storied past in France, alongside insightful cultural reportage and new, complete stories by contemporary masters.”

The first issue won’t hit until Spring of 2025, timed out for the 50th anniversary of when the title originally premiered in January of 1975. But it will be available through newsstands, comic book shops, bookstores, by subscription and via the Kickstarter campaign.
