DC Unveils John Stewart Statue:
John Stewart is joining Batman and Wonder Woman in Burbank’s rapidly expanding DC statue garden. The seven-and-a-half-foot-tall bronze statue of the iconic DC Comics character was unveiled today at Empire Center’s Hangar 28 in Burbank, in a ceremony attended by Burbank Vice Mayor Nikki Perez, DC’s Jim Lee, and DC writers Jeremy Adams, Morgan Hampton and Tim Sheridan.
The 600-pound statue was inspired by art by Jamal Campbell, and crafted by Burbank’s American Fine Arts Foundry and Fabrication. In addition to the statue, Visit Burbank also commissioned a comic book, Green Lantern John Stewart, Global Guardian, written by John Ridley and Charlotte Fullerton McDuffie with art by Amancay Nahuelpan, CHRISCROSS, and Jordi Tarragona and cover art by Jamal Campbell.
The Green Lantern statue can be viewed 24 hours a day at Empire Center’s Hangar 28 at 1775 N Victory Place, Burbank, CA. It joins a Batman statue which is in downtown Burbank, and a Wonder Woman statue that stands at the entrance to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.
Red Hulk Ongoing Series Coming From Marvel:
Benjamin Percy and Geoff Shaw are ready to heat things up with Red Hulk, a new ongoing Marvel Comics series tying into the One World Under Doom event.
In the series, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross becomes the Red Hulk once again, totally coincidentally around the release of Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025. After Doctor Doom imprisons Ross in Latveria, Ross Hulks out with his sulks out (not an expression) as he breaks out of prison and wrecks Latveria in the process.
Said Percy via press release: “When I learned about the One World Under Doom event, my mind immediately went to Thunderbolt Ross. A global takeover would not be tolerated by a man who bleeds red, white, and blue (but especially RED).”
Before Red Hulk hits stores in February, there will be a prelude story in Incredible Hulk #19, which is legacy numbered as #800. Red Hulk #1 smashes into stores on February 26, 2024.
Jimmy Palmiotti Writing New Gunslinger Spawn Book:
Jimmy Palmiotti is getting his yee-haw on for the newest Spawn Universe title, Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger. Per the title, the new comic book focuses on the western-inspired Gunslinger Spawn. And he’s bringing artist Patric Reynolds along for the ride.
Per PR from Image Comics, “In Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger, readers will explore the brutal, Old-West beginnings of Gunslinger Spawn before he was pulled into the modern era. Set against the unforgiving backdrop of the Old-West, this series captures the unrelenting violence and intrigue that define the Gunslinger’s legacy in the Spawn Universe. Known for his mysterious persona and lethal skills, Gunslinger Spawn’s origin will be unveiled in a raw, visceral narrative by two of the industry’s finest talents.”
Palmiotti is extremely familiar with Western tales, thanks to his long, lauded run on Jonah Hex for DC. So this book seems like a natural fit.
The 37-page extra-length issue costs $3.99 and hits stores on December 18, 2024.
