Dark Horse To Release Madman Omnibus, Collecting Mike Allred’s Classic Series:
Dark Horse is collecting Mike Allred’s classic Madman in six paperback omnibuses.
Appropriately titled the Madman Omnibus Editions, the new volumes will include stories by Mike, Laura, and Han Allred focusing on Frank Einstein and his superhero alter ego Madman, as they adventure through the 1950s pop sci-fi inspired Snap City.
The first volume will collect the Madman stories from 1990-1996, including the original three-issue series, Madman Adventures 1–3, Madman Comics 1–10, and per PR provided to Comic Book Club, “Mike Allred’s never-before-published first foray into comics called THEY!” It will also feature bonus pinups and art by Frank Miller, Jack Kirby, Moebius, Frank Frazetta, Emily Carroll, and more!
Madman Omnibus Volume 1 hits bookstores on June 24, 2025.
James Robinson Teases More Starman:
30 years ago, James Robinson and Tony Harris first introduced the Jack Knight version of DC Comics‘s Starman. The son of the Golden Age Starman, Ted Knight, the character starred in one of the most lauded runs in comic book history, over 80 issues, ending in 2001. And for the most part, Jack Knight hasn’t appeared in further comics, given the rare happy ending that sticks.
But as Robinson revealed to Comic Book Club, he and Harris are coming back to Starman for a new story set between the pages of the previous run. Well, “hypothetically.”
Said Robinson: “Well, hypothetically, if there were any more Jack stories, there was a time when Jack goes to Japan. And so hypothetically, if ever there was another Jack story done by DC with me and maybe with Tony, it would be set in that flashback period so that he still is retired happily with his kids and his wife in San Francisco painting and just being Jack.”
Robinson continued to note that in this series the character The Shade would likely appear, and though it will miss the 30th anniversary this year, these things take time. Hypothetically, at least.
Jamal Campbell Writing And Drawing A New Zatanna Series:
Jamal Campbell will be pulling double duty for a magical new six-issue series from DC Comics: Zatanna, which will hit stores in February of 2025.
In the new DC All In book — so, main continuity versus the recent (excellent) Black Label book Zatanna: Bring Down The House — Zatanna is getting her stage crew back together, when “her plans are disrupted before they even begin when her crew is abducted by a ghostly new adversary, The Lady White.” And in a neat artistic twist, Campbell is embracing two styles for the book. The normal moments are drawn in his usual clean style, with “natural colors, and subtle shading.” Meanwhile, the more magical moments in the issues will be “loud with brought and saturated pastels and neons.”
It’ll also include a slew of characters beyond Zatanna: Blue Devil, Madame Xanadu, and Zatanna’s parents, Sindella and Zatara.
Zatanna #1 hits stores on February 19, 2025.
