DC’s Compact Comics Line Adds Superman/Batman And The Authority:

DC’s hit Compact Comics line is adding two more titles in 2025: Superman/Batman, and The Authority.

The Compact Comics line launched this past June, and finds smaller, budget-priced books at $9.99, in full color with usually large page counts. And they’ve been a hit with fans, regularly taking over the graphic novel bestsellers charts.

Per ICv2, The Authority trade will collect the first series by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch and hit stores on July 1, 2025. Superman/Batman will include the “Public Enemies” and “Supergirl” arcs from the 2003 book by Jeph Loeb, with art by Tim Sale, Ed McGuinness, Michael Turner, and Dexter Vines. That will hit stores on July 15, 2025.

While it’s not entirely surprising to see The Authority get a value-priced printing timed right before a number of the characters appear on the big screen in James Gunn’s Superman movie, it is somewhat surprising to see Warren Ellis’s name on a title, as the writer has become persona non grata since various instances of grooming and harassment came to light.

Whether that will impact sales of the book? TBD.

Marvel Reveals Ultimate Howard The Duck:

This December, Marvel releases Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1, a special one-shot that sets the stage for the next year of Ultimate Universe stories. And sure, the focus is on the Ultimate versions of Nick Fury and Wolverine, but thanks to a sneak peek from the publisher… Folks, we have official confirmation of Ultimate Howard The Duck.

And to be clear, it seems to be one panel, where Howard is taken prisoner by S.H.I.E.L.D. He also seems to be exactly like the regular universe Howard the Duck, so it’s unknown at this point whether he’s trapped in a world the Maker never made or not. But boy is it great to see him, and we’re really looking forward to Ultimate Howard the Duck following hot on the webbed feet of Ultimate Wolverine next year.

While that may or may not happen, the one-shot comes from Deniz Camp and Jonas Scharf, so you can thank them for the Howard inclusion. Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1 hits stores on December 11, 2024.

Wolverine: The Sabretooth War Gets An Omnibus:

In a surprisingly quick turnaround, the recent The Sabretooth War storyline is getting an omnibus.

The collection will include the lead-up to the story in Sabretooth #1-5, Sabretooth & The Exiles #1-5, and then the full storyline from Wolverine #41 through #50.

While the story is good and all, one usually expects omnibuses to be legacy stories finally hitting a massive collection. Instead, the conclusion of this storyline hit in May, so it’s pretty fresh.

In the story, Sabretooth escapes from his prison on Krakoa, and decides to take out Wolverine’s family and friends one by one, using a multiversal army of other Sabretooths. The book is by Victor LaValle, Benjamin Percy, and Larry Hama and penciled by Leonard Kirk, Geoff Shaw, Cory Smith, Javier Fernández, and Danial Picciotto.

The omnibus will run 608 pages, is priced at $100, and hits stores on June 3, 2025.
