This December, Marvel releases Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1, a special one-shot that sets the stage for the next year of Ultimate Universe stories. And sure, the focus is on the Ultimate versions of Nick Fury and Wolverine, but thanks to a sneak peek from the publisher… Folks, we have official confirmation of Ultimate Howard The Duck.
And to be clear, it seems to be one panel, where Howard is taken prisoner by S.H.I.E.L.D. He also seems to be exactly like the regular universe Howard the Duck, so it’s unknown at this point whether he’s trapped in a world the Maker never made or not. But boy is it great to see him, and we’re really looking forward to Ultimate Howard the Duck following hot on the webbed feet of Ultimate Wolverine next year.
Anyway, here’s what Marvel would like you to know about. You know, the non-Howard stuff. In the issue, we’re getting a story written by Deniz Camp with art by Jonas Scharf with reveals Ultimate Nick Fury, and shows his connection to The Maker.
Said Camp, “With ULTIMATE UNIVERSE: ONE YEAR IN, my goals were simple: Create an entryway for new readers into the Ultimate Universe; reward longtime readers, especially those who have wanted more connective tissue between the Ultimate books; AND set the stage for the next year of stories, as we build towards the return of the Maker. All this while telling a complete and satisfying one-issue story from the bad guys’ point of view! It’s going to be dark, it’s going to be kind of cruel, and, thanks to Jonas Scharf, it’s going to be beautiful.”
In the sneak preview pages, “Nick Fury’s role in the Maker’s world order is revealed. With their master’s return imminent, the Maker’s Council convene to discuss the sudden rise of super heroes determined to bring hope to their corrupt universe. Since the Ultimate Universe began, readers have learned more and more about its twisted origins, and now Deniz Camp and Jonas Scharf reveal some of its darkest truths yet!”
That’s not all, though. As previously announced, Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio’s Ultimate Wolverine series gets teased in a back-up story. The issue will also include covers by Marco Checchetto, Stefano Caselli, Peach Momoko, Dike Ruan, Frank Miller, Josemaria Casanovas, and Alessandro Cappuccio.
