This is Comic Book Club News for October 28, 2024.
Marvel January 2025 Solicit Highlights:
We’re kicking off our look through Marvel’s January solicits with Deadpool/Wolverine, written by Benjamin Percy with art by Joshua Cassara. The new ongoing series pivots off the success of the movie, and continues the big-action, buddy-cop vibes. Not to be outdone, Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio launch Ultimate Wolverine, which finds The Winter Soldier – who may be Logan – brainwashed and working for the bad guys.
In non-Wolverine news, New Champions brings together a bunch of sidekicks and young heroes previously featured on variant covers in a new team title. And Sam Wilson: Captain America is a five-issue series teeing up the new movie by pitting Sam against Red Hulk.
Moving to the X-Men side of the universe, Magik gives Illyana a solo title battling supernatural entities in the Alaskan ice. Rogue: The Savage Land goes back in time to survive dinosaurs and other beasties. And Cable: Love and Chrome strands the time traveler in the future during an epic civil war.
Amazing Spider-Man begins a new era this month with Joe Kelly’s “Eight Deaths of Spider-Man” story, which per the title, kills Spider-Man eight times. There’s also a special spinoff issue number #65.DEATHS, which is not a number.
Erica Schultz continues her run on the Elektra version of Daredevil with Daredevil: Unleash Hell, which is an adults-only Red Band title. West Coast Avengers #3 reveals multiple Ultrons, one good, one evil. What If…? Galactus is a five-week event of one-shots finding Marvel heroes transformed into Galactus’s heralds. In Avengers #22, Jed MacKay somehow finds a way to get Black Cat to tangle with the Avengers during an intergalactic auction.
And Star Wars: A New Legacy celebrates 10 years of Marvel’s Star Wars comics with stories by Charles Soule, Kieron Gillen, and Jason Aaron.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I guess there were only two Wolverines, sorry about that.
