Storm Takes Center Stage In Marvel’s Black History Month Special:

Storm is everywhere these days. The weather goddess has her own solo title, is front and center in The Avengers, and now will take center stage for this year’s Marvel Voice Black History Month special, Storm: Lifedream #1.

In the book, per PR from Marvel, when “intergalactic historians attempt to update their records on one of the most famous X-Men in multiversal history, they’ll find a woman too powerful to contain – and risk unleashing a side of her no one’s seen before! Experience a whirlwind journey across Storm’s most iconic eras as a malevolent entity threatens to corrupt her legacy!”

The anthology is “spearheaded” by Marvel’s Voices creator Angélique Roché, and will include stories by Curtis Baxter, Brittney Morris, John Jennings, Karen S. Darboe, Edwin Galmon, and more. It will also feature covers by Taurin Clarke and current Storm artist, Lucas Werneck.

And in case it wasn’t abundantly obvious, the title is a riff on one of the most famous Storm stories, “Lifedeath.” It’ll be interesting to see if Lifedream riffs on it more in any way, beyond the title of the book.

Storm: Lifedream #1 will hit stores on January 29, 2025.

Doctor Doom Teaches Kids In Marvel’s Doom Academy:

Next year Marvel is running an event called One World Under Doom, which finds Doctor Doom as Sorcerer Supreme. And spinning out of that is Doom Academy.

The five-issue series is written by Mackenzie Cadenhead with art by Pasqual Ferry, and finds the students of Strange Academy now learning directly from Doom. Plus, some new students show up, too.

Said Cadenhead: “It was really fun to go through old Doom stories and pick out some random characters that exist in that world and find someone or someone’s kid who might be attending Doom Academy. And because the school doesn’t exist, we got to really play with stuff.”

Doom Academy #1 hits stores on February 19, 2025.

Harvey Awards 2024 Winners Announced:

The Harvey Awards announced their 2024 winners Friday, October 18 at New York Comic Con. And appropriately, Friday by Ed Brubaker and Marcos Martín won digital book of the year.

Other winners, per ICv2, are: X-Men ’97 for Best Adaptation from a Comic Book or Graphic Novel; Mexikid by Pedro Martin for Best Children’s Book, Delicious in Dungeon for Best Manga, and Blacksad, volume 7 for Best International Book.

Roaming, by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki, won two awards: Best Young Adult Book, and Book of the Year. Congrats to all the winners!
