DC Comics January 2025 Solicit Highlights:

DC Comics made a big splash this year at New York Comic Con. But we’re looking further ahead at the publisher’s solicitations for January 2025, which is text sent to stores and press to get advance orders going for what’s coming right at the beginning of next year. So let’s talk highlights.

Let’s start with the blockbuster Absolute Universe. Artist Gabriel Walta takes over Absolute Batman for the fourth issue to tell the origin story of Absolute Bruce, and how he became so swole. Similarly, Absolute Superman #3 jumps back to Krypton to show what happened to Kal-El’s parents. And Absolute Wonder Woman #4 continues Diana’s fight against something called the Tetracide.

Moving to the mainline universe, the Superman: Lex Luthor Special may find Lex overcoming his recent amnesia and becoming a bad guy again. Aquaman #1 brings on a new creative team with Jeremy Adams and John Timms. Justice League: The Atom Project from John Ridley and Ryan Parrott, with art by Mike Perkins, picks up the plotline of everyone’s powers getting switched at the end of Absolute Power, with Ryan Choi and Ray Palmer picking up the slack — and Captain Atom not wanting to go back to his powered self.

Speaking of which, The Question: All Along The Watchtower #2 teases a connection between the title’s mystery and The Atom Project. Harley Quinn #47 finds the title character invited to a dinner party where everyone is Clayface. The solicit for JSA #3 teases that Hawkman is in Hell, literally. And Green Lantern #19 begins a new storyline where the Green Lantern Corps goes up against something called Fractal Lanterns, which actually begins in the Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum special earlier in the month. Comics: they’re confusing.

Or maybe intriguing. This year’s DC Power special is titled Rise of the Power Company, and focuses on a growing “Waller Was Right” movement in the DCU, as well as Josiah Power, a meta-human attorney who opposes them. And no month would be complete without an excellently named DC Comics anthology. In January, it’s the early Valentine’s Day special titled DC’s Lex and the City.
