Carol And Daryl Finally [SPOILER] On ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’

After 10 episodes, and nearly two years in real-time, the moment fans have been waiting for finally happened on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Spoilers past this point, but in this week’s episode, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) finally reunite in France.

The moment happens, surprisingly, pretty early on in Season 2, Episode 4 “The Book of Carol: La Paradis Pour Toi.” And it clears the way for a lot of #Caryl time throughout the rest of the episode, as the duo figure out what their relationship is like, given Daryl’s time trapped in France.

But to take a step back, here’s how it all goes down. When we last left Carol, she was about to be executed by Genet (Anne Charrier) and sent as a super-zombie to attack Mont-Saint-Michel. Naturally, Carol escapes… Here by playing dead, and then stealing a dune buggy with Stéphane Codron (Romain Levi) strapped to the front, Mad Max-style.

Carol breaks into Mont-Saint-Michel, with a horde of Genet’s fast-moving zombies in pursuit. And in opposition are the soldiers of Union de L’Espoir. Carol mostly doesn’t care, killing anyone in her way with impunity. That is until she encounters Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), who has been fatally stabbed by Losang (Joel de la Fuente) for betraying the Union. Carol comforts her, gives her a loose rag for her wounds, and more important for our story, discovers where Daryl is being held captive.

At the same time, with the super-zombies attacking, a young soldier locks himself in Daryl’s cage… And realizes his best chance of surviving is by freeing Daryl. So, that’s what he does. Daryl then proceeds to do what he does best… Cutting his way through a crowd of walkers and soldiers, until there, in the light at the end of the tunnel, he sees Carol.

Daryl rushes towards her, they hold each other, and he cries, feeling safe for the first time in months. Between the two there’s not a ton of talk about how Carol got to France, what she’s doing there, etc. First, they find Isabelle, moments before she dies. And then they’re off in pursuit of Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), the boy savior who the Union and Genet’s Pouvoir des Vivants are fighting over.

Don’t worry, there’s plenty of conversation throughout the episode. Carol and Daryl encounter an old couple who thinks Carol is Isabelle. The woman talks a lot about how it’s clear they love each other… Which probably made Caryl shipper’s eyes bug out. And Carol and Daryl are both, separately, worried that the other has changed since they last saw each other. But by the episode’s end, they’ve agreed to find Laurent and head back to Ohio with him. Which is sweet, but we already know they end up in Spain in Season 3. So, good luck with that, I guess.

Regardless, between Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live, the Walking Dead franchise has become all about heartfelt reunions that tug at the heartstrings. And this one very much delivered. Carol, and Daryl together again, and nothing in the world can stop them.
