‘M3GAN’ Writer Akela Cooper To Develop Bad Idea’s ‘The Lot’ For A Feature Film

The Lot Akela Cooper

M3GAN and Malignant screenwriter Akela Cooper has been tapped to develop Bad Idea’s comic The Lot for a feature film. Though no release date has been set, the film will be produced by Dinesh Shamdasani and Benjamin Simpson for Bad Idea, alongside Akela Cooper. Development financing comes from Smartest Termite and producers Andrew Gallina & Shahin Chandrasoma.

The book is written by Marguerite Bennett with art by Renato Guedes, and was first released in 2021, as the publisher’s first wave of comics. And it sounds like a perfect fit for Cooper’s horror-comedy sensibilities… It’s set on a Hollywood studio lot and focuses on a woman named Akiva Copeland who is one of the first black women to run a movie studio. Unfortunately for her, the studio owns an abandoned soundstage that was the site of an occult ritual that awoke an ancient evil. That ancient evil? Joker: Folie à Deux. Just kidding.

Though details are slim other than the plot, Cooper, and the money folks, the publisher touts you can find out more at New York Comic Con, Saturday, Oct 19th at 3:00pm, in Room 408. Fans in attendance will get an NYCC exclusive edition of The Lot #1, with a new cover by EM Carroll, and a new story by Robert Venditti and David Lapham about Hank Howard, Pizza Detective.

Beyond the two aforementioned movies, Cooper is also the writer behind the upcoming M3GAN 2.0.
