Kolchak Meets Frankenstein, Dracula, And The Werewolf In New Comic Book Series

Move over, Abbott and Costello, there’s a new monster-meeter in town: Carl Kolchak, who will cross over with Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Werewolf in a new three-issue series that just hit Kickstarter from Monstrous Books.

In the series, the legendary reporter will trade his keyboard for matching wits with some of pop culture’s greatest monsters. David Dastmalchian will team up with his Count Crowley compatriot Lukas Ketner, and colorist Zac Atkinson, to cross over not just with the Werewolf (who really needs a proper name), but also Count Crowley in the appropriately named “Kolchak Meets the Werewolf and Count Crowley.” That issue will feature a cover by Ketner and a variant from Matt Wagner.

“One of the biggest inspirations for my character, Jerri Bartman aka Count Crowley is Kolchak,” said Dastmalchian via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “I love nontraditional heroes who are thrust into harrowing and thrilling circumstances because of fate. I always hoped there would be a world in which these two monster-hunting journalists could cross paths and I’m over the full moon that it’s happening here on the pages of a comic drawn by none other than Lukas Ketner. Prepare, monster kids! The werewolf is loose in Chicago and Kolchak’s going to need some help if his hat isn’t going to be shredded to pieces.”

Rodney Barnes will tackle “Kolchak Meets Dracula,” with Alex Lins on art, and a cover by Colton Worley. And Steve Niles will take on “Kolchak Meets Frankenstein,” with art by George Quadros and colors by Zac Atkinson, as well as a cover by Russ Braun.

“I am thrilled to be working with Monstrous Books on the new Kolchak: The Night Stalker comic line,” Said Niles. “With writers as great as David Dastmachian and Rodney Barnes also involved, this will be a very special release. I grew up on Kolchak and I have Frankenstein on the brain. Getting the chance to write both has been an amazing experience.”

Barnes added, “It’s an honor to once again enter the terrifying world of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Never feels like work!”

All three stories will be collected in a deluxe, hardcover edition titled Kolchak Meets The Classic Monsters, with a new cover by Dave Acosta. You can check out covers and interior pages below, and click for larger versions.
