This is Comic Book Club News for October 16, 2024.

DC Launches On GlobalComix Platform:

Hot on the heels of the announcement of DC GO!, which will launch vertical comics for DC next month, comes news that the publisher is providing DRM-free issues on the GlobalComix platform.

Per Wired, over 400 comics are available on the digital platform now. And while GlobalComix is also a vertical platform, it won’t break the format of these previously released comic books. Instead, you’ll merely scroll up page by page on your device of choice.

This also marks the first major platform DC has joined since kicking off the digital revolution with Comixology in 2011. While DC still has its own DC Universe Infinite app, per the name, GlobalComix is a global platform available in more countries than DCUI. Other publishers already on GlobalComix include Dark Horse, Image Comics, BOOM!, and Dynamite.

DC titles currently available include Tom King’s run on Batman, Joëlle Jones’s run on Catwoman, Grant Morrison’s run on Doom Patrol, James Tynion IV’s run on The Joker, and Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth.

With DC now in the fold, will Marvel be far behind? Stay tuned.

Juan Ferreyra Named Ongoing TMNT Artist:

After a rotating cadre of superstars has tackled the first five issues of IDW‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, another one has joined their ranks… This time as the new, ongoing artist for the series: Juan Ferreyra teams up with writer Jason Aaron, starting with TMNT #6.

Said Ferreyra via press release: “I was a big Turtles fan when I was 11-12 years old, I used to draw them all the time. In fact, when I told one of my best friends that I was going to draw the TMNT comic next, he told me that one of his first memories of me drawing was when he saw me drawing the Turtles and how amazed he was at how I was able to draw them so accurately.”

After keeping the Turtles apart (mostly) for the first four issues of the series, the brothers are finally back together and in the Big Apple when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 opens. However, they’re still being hunted — albeit on their own turf. Along with interior art, Ferreyra will also provide covers for the series. And joining him on issue #6 is Jorge Fornes.

TMNT #6 goes on sale on January 29, 2025.

Rick Remender And Paul Azaceta Launch New Horror Comic:

Killer clowns: they’re all the rage right now. And while we can’t promise the disturbing harlequin featured on the cover to The Seasons #1 is a killer clown, we do know that the new Image Comics series from Rick Remender and Paul Azaceta is ready to bring some serious horror next year.

The book kicks off with a double-sized premiere issue focusing on the Seasons Sisters — Summer, Winter, Spring, and Autumn — daughters of the “world-renowned Seasons Detectives. Ten years ago, their famous parents disappeared. Left to raise themselves, the sisters formed an unbreakable bond. Now that bond is tested as the sisters fall prey to sinister forces.”

Said Remender, “Inspired by Miyazaki, Windsor McKay, and Tintin we wanted to make something that was delightful, poignant, and heartfelt. We hope you find the Seasons sisters as charming as we do. And the Ringleader and his imps as devilishly terrifying.”

The first issue will hit stores on January 15, 2025.
