Arcbound, the upcoming Dark Horse Comics sci-fi series from Scott Snyder, Frank Tieri, Ryan Smallman and Tom Hardy, was first teased back at San Diego Comic-Con. And now we have a better look at the 12-issue event, thanks to a new trailer — as well as a debut date, and a Kickstarter launch.

“I have always felt that comics are a fantastic playground for the creative process, a process I’m continuously drawn to in all aspects of storytelling. From a small creative team comes epic worlds, built together without any budget constraints— the only limitation is the team’s imagination,” said Hardy via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to work alongside such industry legends as Scott, Frank, and Ryan in helping to bring the ARCBOUND universe to life.”

Added Snyder, “Getting to build unique worlds that ask compelling questions about what it means to be human is both a privilege and one of my favorite parts of making comics, especially when the process is as collaborative as this book has been. Tom Hardy, Frank, Ryan, and I have put all of our collective passion and creativity into this series. We’re beyond excited to announce the Kickstarter for our Special Edition Hardcover, which collects the entire first story arc along with interviews, designs, and loads of back matter— it’s the perfect way for readers to immerse themselves in the world of ARCBOUND.”

Arcbound is set on a future Earth, which has become a barren wasteland. Into that world enters Kai, a “rising star” in the army of Zynitec, an all-powerful company that controls the cosmos thanks to harnessing the energy of Kronium. But when Kai gets a mysterious message, everything is thrown into flux, and he’ll have to explore what it means to be human in a world controlled by technology.

Seems pretty far-fetched, I said while typing on a computer that will transmit this article to unknown people all over the world.

“Scott Snyder! Ryan Smallman! Tom Hardy! (yes, THAT Tom Hardy!) And of course… myself!” Tieri said. “Not only does ARCBOUND promise an all-star roster of creators but also a universe unlike any you’ve seen before—and there’s no better way to explore it than with this special edition hardcover, which even includes the option for signed bookplates by the entire team… yes, even from that Tom Hardy guy, too!“

Artist Ryan Smallman added, “This book has been a long time coming. Having the opportunity to bring this universe to life, striking the right visual tone for what Scott, Frank and Tom dreamed up has been such a fulfilling challenge. Seeing their excitement with every drawing and every page is always such a thrill— I’m psyched we finally get to share ARCBOUND with everyone!”

Not only will the comic book launch from Dark Horse on November 13, but a special hardcover will hit Kickstarter around the same time. The hardcovers will include limited edition variant covers by Tyler Kirkham and Boss Logic, as well as autograph options.
