Image Comics has been teasing an array of creators possibly being associated with their horror comic Ice Cream Man for a few weeks now. And as it turns out, it’s going to be bigger and wilder than we thought as a murderer’s row of creators are teaming up with W. Maxwell Prince, Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran for a special issue featuring one-page horror stories.
Some of the creators taking a lick of the ol’ cone in Ice Cream Man #43 include: Grant Morrison, Patton Oswalt, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Matt Fraction, Jeff Lemire, Geoff Johns, Zoe Thorogood, Deniz Camp, and Frank Barbiere. Prince will also provide a one-pager, with all the stories illustrated by Morazzo and O’Halloran.
“How lucky are we? That some of comics’ most beloved writers agreed (or one may say were tricked) into contributing to our issue of one-page horror stories,” said Prince via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Our MO has always been compression—getting a full story to fit one floppy. But this is a whole new level, and a whole new challenge. We hope that you like our little stories, and hope even more that you appreciate our guests and their amazing brains.”
Ice Cream Man features a mysterious horror host named Rick who delivers tales of terror and mortality in every issue. And recently the book was picked up for a big screen adaptation by Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
Ice Cream #43 will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, January 15, featuring covers by Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran, and Maria Llovet. But you can get a free sample of the flavors on offer, below. Click for larger versions.
