Ileana Surducan’s The Lost Sunday is a hit. It’s Eisner Award-nominated. And now, it’s coming to comic book shops in English for the first time from Oni Press.

“I hope children will be delighted by this colorful journey into a land of magic, filled with whimsical creatures, strange trials, and lessons about kindness to all, yourself included,” said Surducan via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “And I hope grown-ups might see a story that shines a light on a very present-day problem—the quest for free time—that offers a glimpse of hope: to strike the perfect, delicate balance between work and relaxation.”

The Lost Sunday focuses on Nina, who lives in a town haunted by six angry wolves: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. While every day is full of chores and drudgery, she dreams of a legendary seventh day, the lost Sunday of the title, which was stolen by an evil witch. When Nina reaches her breaking point, she decides to head out on a quest to rid the town of the witch and take back Sunday (not to be confused with the American rock band Taking Back Sunday).

The book is inspired by folklore and fairy tales and was previously released in French in 2021. The Romanian and English editions were funded through Kickstarter, and now you can read the English edition in comic shops and bookstores in June 2025. Check out a preview of the book, below.
