We may never know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop, but we do know how many bites it takes to celebrate the 200th episode of Bite Sized Archie: 200. And today, the weekly Archie Comics strip from Ron Cacace and Vincent Lovallo has reached that landmark.
“It’s so unreal that we’ve reached 200 strips of BITE SIZED ARCHIE,” said Lovallo, who also serves as Archie’s art director, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Ron and I have been working on this webcomic consistently for almost four years now and have never missed a week. In some ways, it’s been so automatic, like a routine or habit, so getting here happened before I even knew it!”
Added Cacace, “I can’t thank the team at Archie enough for letting me get away with basically whatever I want, and for the Archie fans who allow us to present another different take on the Riverdale gang.”
First launched in late 2020 at the height of the pandemic, Bite Sized Archie has been a lovable and hilarious tribute to the Archie Comics characters. But given the weekly schedule, it’s also been able to respond to viral memes and trends, riffing off Ron “I’m baby” Cacace’s time directing publicity for Archie. Each four-panel gag strip has included the classic characters, and even introduced original characters like Spider and Scam Likely.
“It’s amazing to see how far both Ron and I have come in terms of dialogue and art,” Lovallo continued. “I’m forever grateful for the hard work and dedication Ron has. He’s as funny and witty in real life as he is on paper, and to be that brilliant on this series without missing a beat is so admirable. I couldn’t ask for a better friend and co-creator to be on this journey with!”
“None of BITE SIZED ARCHIE would be possible without the relentless dedication of artist and co-creator Vincent Lovallo, who goes above and beyond what’s expected for a weekly social media comic,” Cacace added. “When I look back at where it began and how much we’ve all learned and changed throughout the course of this comic’s run, I’m astonished. Writing BITE SIZED ARCHIE and collaborating with Vincent has become the one constant in my life, the one thing I know is going to deliver a spark of joy and creativity and inspiration every week.”
