DSTLRY Announces All-Star Holiday Special, Through The Boughs: A Yuletide Offering:
DSTLRY is decking the halls this holiday season with an all-star anthology titled Through the Boughs: A Yuletide Offering.
Running an over-sized 64-pages, the anthology features stories focusing on winter folklore from comic superstars like James Tynion IV and Sweeney Boo, as well as Hollywood superstars like Patrick McHale, creator of Over the Garden Wall.
Said Tynion IV via a press release provided to Comic Book Club: “There’s something special about the holidays. I’ve always been drawn to the strange little stories we like to tell each other in the dead of winter, the strange warmth that comes from the coldest months.”
Added McHale: “Holiday illustrations and old weird books have been a continual source of inspiration.”
The book will hit stores — when else — this December.
Dark Horse Announces Yucatan 1512, A New Graphic Novel:
Dark Horse is heading back to the 16th century with the new original graphic novel Yucatan 1512.
The first OGN by Spanish concept artist Alex Vede, the book follows a group of Spanish soldiers who land on the Yucatan Peninsula in 1512, seeking the legendary city of Mayan gold. When the commander of the group kills a native, Sorolla, an old soldier, rebels against his compatriots to save a child, turning the quest for the city of gold into a manhunt. Oh, and there are monsters, too.
They say don’t judge a book by the cover, but the lovely cover provided by Dark Horse looks great, so consider that one copy sold. You can explore Yucatan 1512 for yourself in bookstores on May 6, 2025, and comic shops on May 7, 2025.
Clover Press Teases Mystery Marvel Art Of Book:
Clover Press has been on a roll with its gorgeous Marvel Art Of books. Previous editions have featured David Mack, Alex Maleev, Russell Dauterman, and more. And the next one? Well, that’s a mystery.
For the past few days, the publisher has been posting blurred-out images from what could be the cover, or interiors of the book, asking fans to guess which artist will take the spotlight next. While some bits look like they might be the Hulk, and several images reveal what is clearly Captain America’s shield… That’s not helpful, since this is a Marvel art book.
Popular guesses online include Mike Allred, or Chris Samnee, with some other commentators throwing out Adam Hughes or Marco Checchetto. One guess was for Tim Sale, which would be amazing except thus far Clover’s books have been in collaboration with the artist — and sadly, Sale passed away in 2022.
So who will take the spotlight next? We’ll likely know in the next few days.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And maybe it’s my Marvel art. If so, it’s not going to sell a lot of copies.
