Ultimate Guardians Of The Galaxy Debut This January:
The Ultimate Guardians of the Galaxy arrive this January, in Ultimates #8.
The team includes Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, Ultimate Nullifier, and Cosmo. Not your typical lineup, but they feature designs by Juan Frigeri, so these bunch of a-holes still look really good. Traveling from the future, the Guardians are looking for their missing teammates — and may hold the key to helping the Ultimates take down villain The Maker when he returns in one year’s time.
Said writer Deniz Camp via press release provided to Comic Book Club: “The creative goal we set for ourselves on ULTIMATES — in addition to telling complete stories every issue — was to create (or recreate) characters interesting enough to sustain readers’ imaginations and their own series, if they had to… Issue eight introduces the Ultimate Guardians of the Galaxy, and I hope readers enjoy meeting the heroes of the future as much as I enjoyed writing them! It’s our most cosmic issue to date, the life and death of universes in 20 pages, and explores new sides of the Ultimate Universe through Ultimate America Chavez, who has quickly become a favorite of mine.”
The Ultimates #8 hits comic book stores on January 1, 2025.
DC Comics Releasing Batman By James Tynion IV Omnibus:
DC is releasing an omnibus collection of Batman comics by James Tynion IV.
Per ICv2, the 1,040-page collection curiously won’t include Tynion IV’s entire run on Batman, which ran from issue #86 in 2020, through #117 in 2021, when Tynion IV left to work on independent work on Substack. Instead, the omnibus will include issues #86 through #105 only, and some stories from Batman #85, and Batman #107 through #111. In addition, it will include the first four issues of Tynion IV’s The Joker series, skip to The Joker #14, and also include Punchline #1 and others.
I’m honestly not sure what the goal was here, but if you want to read most but not all of Tynion IV’s run on Batman, and then a bunch of other comics, it will hit stores on March 4, 2025, for $125.
Comic Book Club News Wins Arts Category At Podcast Awards:
And before we finish up today: Comic Book Club News has won in the Arts category at this year’s Podcast Awards.
Sure this is a little bit of navel-gazing, but the news was announced Monday, September 30 at the annual Podcast Awards ceremony on International Podcast Day. The first round was open to public nominations, and the final round of voting was a mix of journalists, podcast thought leaders, legacy podcasters, sponsors, and more.
I’d like to thank the listeners, our supporters on Patreon, everyone who voted in the Podcast Awards, and most of all the comic book industry for having just enough news to make a daily news podcast worthwhile.
