It may be the scariest month of the year, but the only frightening thing about Marvel Comics for October 2024 is how scary good they look!
Some of our top picks for the month include selections from the blockbuster Ultimate Universe, some of the “From the Ashes” era X-Men titles, and even a few Star Wars books. Plus, Zeb Wells says goodbye to Amazing Spider-Man with an all-out brawl to end them all.
Read on for our top 13 picks of comic books from Marvel for October, presented in chronological release order.
1. Storm #1
Release Date: October 2, 2024
Murewa Ayodele and Lucas Werneck launch the highly anticipated solo series for the X-Men’s weather goddess and seem to be tackling some Big Topics along the way.
2. Star Wars: The Battle Of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #1
Release Date: October 2, 2024
The next era of Star Wars comics from Marvel kick-off with a three, four-issue series that is being released semi-weekly. Written by Alex Segura, the books bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
3. Get Fury #6
Release Date: October 2, 2024
Nobody does war comics like Garth Ennis, and along with Jacen Burrows he wraps up this Vietnam-era tale of Frank Castle and Nick Fury in sure-to-be bloody fashion.
4. The Ultimates #5
Release Date: October 9, 2024
This series has been on absolute fire since the first issue, and it looks like it isn’t calming down anytime soon with the intro of a new Ultimate Hawkeye of Indigenous heritage.
5. Star Wars: Ewoks #1
Release Date: October 9, 2024
Those lovable fuzzballs get their own miniseries set after Return of the Jedi, written by Steve Orlando. For anyone who harbors nostalgia for Caravan of Courage, this is for you.
6. Sentinels #1
Release Date: October 9, 2024
There’s a lot of hype behind this one, and for good reason. Turning to the villain perspective, these cybernetically enhanced soldiers have a bone to pick with mutants but also have deep ties to Marvel events past. With Alex Paknadel writing this one, it’s sure to be a twisty, dark, fascinating side of the X-Men “From The Ashes” era.
7. Ultimate Spider-Man #10
Release Date: October 16, 2024
Pretty much the biggest title Marvel’s got right now, this issue the focus turns on J. Jonah Jameson and Ben Parker as they investigate the ties between Stark Industries and Oscorp.
8. Mystique #1
Release Date: October 16, 2024
The shape-changing mutant takes center stage for this miniseries from Declan Shalvey pitting her against Nick Fury. Shalvey has been crushing it lately, so it’s exciting to see him going back to both writing and art duties.
9. Moon Knight: Fist Of Khonshu #1
Release Date: October 16, 2024
Marc Spector is back as Moon Knight, from the same team that has done the previous two first issues of Moon Knight. Those have been good, so this should be good, too!
10. Iron Man #1
Release Date: October 23, 2024
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Spencer Ackerman takes on Iron Man, with Julius Ohta on art. Plus War Monger is back, and Tony has an improvisational suit, which does not sadly mean he’ll be getting suggestions from the audience.
11. Alien: Romulus #1
Release Date: October 23, 2024
This one-shot made in coordination with the filmmakers behind Alien: Romulus will reveal one dangling plot thread from the recent movie.
12. Wolverine: Revenge #3
Release Date: October 30, 2024
This series from Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo has been absolutely insane so far. And now we’re going to get to see Wolverine try and kill Colossus, based on the cover. Marvel is also teasing that you’ll never guess what happens next, and based on the first two issues? Probably!
13. Amazing Spider-Man #60
Release Date: October 30, 2024
Zeb Wells ends his run on ASM with an all-out brawl with Tombstone. Plus, a preview of Joe Kelly’s “Eight Deaths of Spider-Man” storyline, to boot!
