DC Comics is absolutely All In for October 2024, with a publishing initiative that hopes to revitalize the house that Batman built.
On one side you’ve got new creative teams and fresh directions in books like Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and more. On the other, you’ve got the darker Absolute Universe, which launches with Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman. And then there are a lot more books beyond that, too.
In fact, there are so many we had to limit the list a bit, and didn’t include a slew of the new All In directions on DCU titles. Check ’em out, but other than listing every book on DC’s roster in October, we had to stop somewhere.
So with that in mind, here are our tktk top DC Comics for October, 2024, presented in chronological release order.
1. Absolute Power #4
Release Date: October 2, 2024
This event from DC Comics wraps up here and then kicks right into the DC All In publishing initiative. But regardless of big things like marketing language and whatnot, the whole vent has been a tense action thriller pitting the DCU against Amanda Waller.
2. DC All Special #1
Release Date: October 2, 2024
Pretty much an essential read if you’re a DC fan, this 52-page flipbook sets up the new status of the DC Universe, as well as establishing the brand new Absolute Universe. Plus art by Wes Craig and Daniel Sampere? LFG.
3. Absolute Batman #1
Release Date: October 9, 2024
First out of the gate in the Absolute Universe is the Big Boi himself, Absolute Batman, written by Scott Snyder with art by Nick Dragotta. I think I’m allowed to say this is a wild, bold issue with some stunning Dragotta art, and you’ve never seen a Batman like this before. If I’m not allowed to say that: oops.
4. Green Lantern: Civil Corps Special #1
Release Date: October 9, 2024
Tying together Jeremy Adams’s excellent run on Green Lantern with Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s excellent run on Green Lantern: War Journal? Don’t mind if I do!
5. Nightwing #118
Release Date: October 16, 2024
Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo end one of the best runs on Nightwing of all time with this issue. You hate to see them love, but you love to watch them go.
6. Wonder Woman #14
Release Date: October 16, 2024
Tom King and Daniel Sampere continue their run on Wonder Woman, but promise a big new start for DC All In anyway, with the birth of Trinity, Diana’s daughter.
7. Batman And Robin: Year One #1
Release Date: October 16, 2024
Mark Waid and Chris Samnee reunite for the story of Batman and Robin teaming up, and per the Year One moniker, they’re still figuring out how to work together. Everything Waid and Samnee have done together has been excellent, so we’d expect no less here.
8. Detective Comics #1090
Release Date: October 23, 2024
Tom Taylor and Mikel Janín take over Detective Comics for a story that will prove everything Bruce Wayne thought he knew about his parent’s death in Crime Alley was wrong. I’d scoff except Taylor did a similar thing in Nightwing and the retcon was fantastic. So consider me hyped.
9. Absolute Wonder Woman #1
Release Date: October 23, 2024
Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman team up for the second Absolute title, which finds Diana being raised in Hell instead of Themyscria. Some wild art and great advance buzz make this a must-pick-up.
10. Zatanna: Bring Down The House #5
Release Date: October 23, 2024
The most gorgeous book on the stands right now, Mariko Tamaki and Javier Rodríguez wrap up the Black Label story in style, as Zatanna finally gets her groove back.
11. Green Arrow 2024 Annual #1
Release Date: October 30, 2024
Joshua Williamson wraps up his excellent run on Green Arrow with this annual, which brings the Arrow Family back together after the events of Absolute Power.
12. Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing: Feral Trees #1
Release Date: October 30, 2024
A one-shot teaming up the title characters from G. Willow Wilson with art by Mike Perkins, right before Halloween, sounds like a spooky good time to me.
13. Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #2
Release Date: October 30, 2024
After a strong first issue, The Last Halloween returns with Klaus Janson on art, picking up the baton from Eduardo Risso. As a sequel to one of the best Batman stories of all time, the hype is high. Here’s hoping writer Jeph Loeb is able to match it.
