Wondering when The Batman and The Penguin take place? Good news for you date-obsessed fans… As of this week’s episode of The Penguin, we now have exact dates for when things take place in the world of the movie and TV show, collectively known as The Batman Epic Crime Saga. Wondering about The Batman Epic Crime Saga timeline? We’ve got you covered.
Spoilers for The Penguin Episode 2 “Inside Man” past this point.
Most of the second half of the episode takes place at the funeral for Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen), and subsequent reception at the Falcone’s house. While there, Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) visits the mausoleum where Alberto, Carmine Falcone (John Turturro in The Batman, Mark Strong on The Penguin), and her mother Isabella Falcone are buried.
The main thrust of the closing scene is a conversation between Oswald Cobb (Colin Farrell) and Sofia that solidifies their alliance — temporary though it may be. But our concern here are the lingering shots of the nameplates on the crypts. Specifically, Alberto and Carmine’s nameplates establish they were killed in 2022.
That isn’t a huge surprise, as The Batman was released in 2022, and The Penguin picks up one week later. But it is kind of interesting that both the movie and the TV show, as well as the upcoming The Batman Part II, which will reportedly follow directly on The Penguin‘s ending, all take place two years ago (more by the time The Batman sequel is released). They’re period pieces now, to a simpler time when…
Just kidding. But let’s break down the exact dates we know, including some from The Batman.
