Breaking Instagram news: Jordan Peele is now following Mahershala Ali on Instagram. And not only that, Mahershala Ali is also following Jordan Peele on Instagram. So does this mean that Jordan Peele is directing the MCU’s Blade? Is Jordan Peele directing Mahershala Ali as Blade, in Blade? Are all of my dreams coming true? Free puppies all around??
The Instagram follow was pointed out this morning by Daniel RPK on X (formerly Twitter), and of course fans of Marvel Studios immediately jumped to Peele directing Blade, based on the follow. And while it is possible that these things all add up, allow me to put a stake through this one right now.
While Peele has been rumored to have met with Marvel Studios, a lot of people meet with a lot of other people about a lot of things in Hollywood. The phrase “let’s take a meeting” is cliché for a lot of reasons, and so yes Peele could have sat down with Marvel chief Kevin Feige to discuss Blade, or X-Men, or any number of projects. Or it could have been a simple speculative meeting (if it did happen) to see whether they liked each other, to discuss some actual project down the road.
But the biggest factor working against a Peele/Marvel directing collaboration? Peele’s untitled fourth movie, which is currently scheduled to be released on October 23, 2026.
There aren’t any details about that beyond it being a follow-up to Get Out, US, and Nope. No cast members, no plot teases, nothing. And sure 2026 seems a while away. But a meticulous director like Peele needs time to work and prepare. For example, Nope was officially announced in 2020. It filmed for six months in 2021. And it was released in July of 2022. By a similar schedule, Peele is pretty much booked up until whatever this next movie is, is released.
Meanwhile, Blade is still scheduled for November 7, 2025. Pure speculation, it’s not keeping that date as it currently does not have a director. But if it does move back, that brings it into conflict with Peele’s 2026 movie. So yeah, there’s no real way that Peele could currently come on to direct Blade. He could come on as a producer, or a script fixer. But directing is a reach.
More likely, Ali is joining that fourth movie, which would potentially cause more problems for the troubled production of the MCU movie (but be great for Ali and Peele). More on this as it develops, Instagram detectives.
