Today, September 26, is National Pancake Day. It’s a holiday that is well worth celebrating because pancakes are delicious. We all agree! And in honor of the holiday, Dark Horse Direct is releasing a limited edition print of Mike Mignola’s classic Hellboy story, “Pancakes.”
First published in 1999 in the pages of Dark Horse Presents Annual, the two-page story showed a young Hellboy trying “pamcakes” for the first time. The new screenprint comes in black and white, is 24 inches wide by 18 inches tall, and printing on 100# Cougar uncoated paper. It’s also hand-numbered, and there are only 250 of the prints being created.
But look, I want to level with all of you before I post an extensive gallery depicting the screenprint… When I first got the press release from Dark Horse about this, I thought they had printed a Hellboy story on pancakes. Like, physically on pancakes. And they were releasing a new pancake maker, like the one you use at Holiday Inns, that would screenprint Hellboy stories onto pancakes for you. And oh boy, was I ready to purchase a Hellboy screenprinting pancake maker.
So if that’s what you thought this was, as well… It’s not. Sorry. It’s “just” a gorgeous reproduction of a classic Mike Mignola story, alas.
While it won’t ship until November, you can pre-order the Hellboy 30th Anniversary: Pancakes! Screenprint today for National Pancake Day, for only $60.
