Sonic The Hedgehog Is Crossing Over With Justice League:
Here’s some news that’s going to run rings around the competition: Warner Bros. and SEGA are teaming up with DC Comics for a massive crossover mixing DC’s Justice League with Sonic the Hedgehog, and Team Sonic. The partnership will span a new five-issue comic book series, plus “consumer products,” which are my favorite type of products to consume.
The mash-up characters will include Shadow the Hedgehog as Batman, Knuckles as Superman, Amy Rose as Wonder Woman, Silver the Hedgehog as Green Lantern, Tails as Cyborg, and Sonic as — who else — The Flash.
The new series will be written by Ian Flynn, who writes the currently running Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series, and recently appeared on Comic Book Club’s live podcast, two equal claims to fame. Though the name of the series and exact debut dates are TBA, per a release provided to Comic Book Club we know that “the Justice League and Team Sonic must unite to save their worlds from a major threat,” and it will debut in March of 2025. The five issues will come out monthly, wrapping up in July of 2025.
Jeff Lemire And Dustin Nguyen’s Ascender Gets A Compendium:
Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s Descender is a modern classic. And now the companion series, Ascender, is getting a compendium collecting all 18 issues of the series, from Image Comics.
While Descender presented a universe destroyed by robots trying to find its way back to some semblance of hope, Ascender picked up 10 years later, as magic took over the universe, and replaced machines. Following the daughter of two of the characters from the first book, it went on a wild adventure through space and time that looped quickly back to the themes and ideas of the preceding series.
Descender has already had its own compendium, collecting 32 issues of that series. And now you can read the complete epic as Ascender will join in on shelves, Wednesday, October 30 in comic book shops and Tuesday, November 12 in book stores.
Avatar The Last Airbender Gets An Omnibus:
Dark Horse Comics’s excellent Avatar: The Last Airbender comic book series is getting a massive omnibus boxed set. An omnibox set, if you will.
If you’ve never read them before, the books are the official, in-continuity continuation of the classic animated series, written by Gene Luen Yang, with art by Gurihiru, and in collaboration with Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. They pick up right after the defeat of Fire Lord Ozai, and follow Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Suki, and more as they go on further adventures in the world of Avatar.
The omnibox set includes five complete series, stretching over 1,160 pages, will cost $124.95, and hit bookstores on March 11, 2025, and comic book stores on March 12, 2025.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. Omnibox set. See? It’s catching on.
