Is Marvel Studios working on a Hercules TV series for Disney+? A new listing seems to indicate that it may be in some form of development, finally picking up on the end credits scene featuring Brett Goldstein from Thor: Love and Thunder.
The listing comes via the latest issue of Production Weekly, which has had a pretty good track record these past few weeks, what with calling that James Spader is joining the cast of Vision, and what seems like a likely in-development Scarlet Witch movie. Still, our regular caveat here: PW is a magazine for people in the industry to search for jobs. They state they don’t vet listings, so many things on there could be true, or they could be pure rumor-fuel.
Regardless, the listing for Hercules is pretty bare-bones. It says that it’s a series, for Disney+, in development by Marvel Television. Beyond that, Kevin Feige is listed as Producer and that’s it. No timing, no casting, nothing.
That said? This one certainly has an air of authenticity to it. Brett Goldstein, who played Hercules in the post-credits scene, is a TV star from Ted Lasso, and upcoming in Shrinking. So keeping him in the media where people know him from makes a lot of sense. There’s also no reason to think Marvel isn’t developing a Hercules TV series. While the end credits teed up Hercules going after Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in a possible fifth Thor movie, we don’t know if that’s happening, either. And Chris Hemsworth is an in-demand actor, so pivoting Hercules’s story — for now — to TV makes a lot of sense, too.
After all, Marvel already had one extremely successful Thor streaming spinoff in Loki; why not a second one? Seems like a safe bet to me. And to add more fuel to the fire, Hercules is usually pretty funny in the comics, and with Wonder Man leaning into comedy, this might be a good follow-up.
So will Hercules be streaming on the same service as Percy Jackson and the Olympians in the near future? Stay tuned.
