Jack the Ripper returns!

Goat Magic debuts!

Silver Surfer gets an omnibus!

This is Comic Book Club News for September 25, 2024.

Jack The Ripper Is Back In Ripperland From Dark Horse Comics:

Jack the Ripper is back! In comics. Should have specified that before causing a panic. The new book is titled Ripperland, and it comes from Dark Horse Comics, writers Steve Orlando and John Harris Dunning, and artist Alessandro Oliveri.

The book takes place in the far future, 2188 to be precise, as Jack the Ripper returns to terrorize London, which is now a massive Victorian theme park. An American special agent and a British police detective must overcome their differences to stop the new Jack from destroying the city.

Said Orlando via press release provided to Comic Book Club: “RIPPERLAND is unlike any book I’ve ever been part of–and I mean that in the best possible way. John and Alessandro are incredible talents, and the alchemy between us, across borders and across oceans, has created something truly special! This is WESTWORLD meets FROM HELL in a gorgeous speculative fiction package! The streets of tomorrow’s London call…to yesterday! I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

Ripperland will run four issues, and debuts on January 22, 2024, from Dark Horse.

Kate Wheeler Takes On Goat Magic For Oni Press:

Move over magic, here comes Goat Magic! The adorable looking new Oni Press graphic novel comes from Kate Wheeler, known for her work in The Washington PostNPR, and The Nib.

In the book, Trill, a goat herder, has a magical ability to communicate with her flock. But other magic exists in the world in the form of sorcery taught at magic schools, though Trill is barred from using that magic. When a princess is transformed into a goat, she must team up with Trill to break her curse and save the kingdom.

Said Wheeler, “Goat Magic is a thrilling fantasy adventure that, at its heart, is about becoming the person you want to be rather than what’s expected of you. The story will appeal to mischief makers and risk takers (aka big Goat energy) as well as readers with a soft spot for queer romance.”

Will Goat Magic be the greatest of all time? You can find out for yourself when it hits stores in August of 2025.

Silver Surfer Omnibus Coming From Marvel Comics:

In advance of next year’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, the Silver Surfer is getting an omnibus from Marvel.

Per ICV2, the 1,360-page hardcover will include everything from 1982’s Silver Surfer, all the way through Silver Surfer: The Enslavers from 1990. That includes an origin story for the Surfer’s master, Galactus, as well as the classic Stan Lee and Moebius collaboration Silver Surfer: The Parable.

However, for fans curious for clues about what will happen with the Surfer in the MCU movie… Get out of here! This book isn’t for you! The Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer seen in the upcoming movie only appears in the alternate universe Earth X, which won’t be part of this collection.

That said, the omnibus will have a cover by Ron Lim and a direct market edition with a cover by Jim Lee. It will cost $150 and hit stores on April 22, 2025.
