‘Thunderbolts*’: Marvel Drops The First Trailer (But Not The Asterisk)

The first trailer for Marvel‘s Thunderbolts* has dropped online. Though much to the concern of everyone, the title has not dropped the asterisk.

The movie brings together a bevy of characters from the fringes of the Marvel universe: Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, aka White Widow; Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes; Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost; Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent; David Harbour as Red Guardian; and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.

Also in the film are Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel, Valentina’s assistant, and Lewis Pullman as “Bob.” Though really, he’s The Sentry, come on.

As for the plot? Not a lot is known about the flick at the current time. Initially in Marvel Comics, the team was a group of villains masquerading as heroes. However, with the lineup above this seems to be acting more like Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad over on DC… A bunch of disposable killers/anti-heroes brought together for dangerous, black ops jobs.

And in fact, the asterisk might indicate that’s the correct take. While there’s been a lot of speculation about it, given Marvel chief Kevin Feige has said they won’t reveal what it’s about until after the movie is out. Which means probably a title change. Will the team be called New Avengers? Or perhaps: Dark Avengers?

After going through a lot of changes and passing through many hands, the movie is now directed by Jake Schreier, with a script by Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo. It will hit theaters on May 2, 2025. You can watch the trailer, below.
