In clearest eyes, in fullest hearts, actor Kyle Chandler has nabbed a crucial part. The Friday Night Lights star is joining HBO’s new DCU series Lanterns as Hal Jordan.
One of the most highly speculated about roles on TV, at one point reportedly offered to Josh Brolin (and rumored to be floated by Chris Pine and Matthew McConaughey), it looks like Chandler will be playing the Green Lantern opposite a TBA John Stewart. The show will feature the two characters teaming up to solve a dark mystery on Earth.
Per THR, the show is planning on shooting from January to June in Atlanta.
Casting Chandler as Jordan certainly could play into an earnest, hothead take on the character, similar to the role he played in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, versus, say, the more steady Coach from FNL. Also perhaps pointing to low chances of survival for Jordan, sources told THR that Chandler is only signed for the TV series, not any movies. This seems in direct contradiction with Gunn emphasizing that actors would be cast for a variety of projects. So, RIP, Hal Jordan?
Called a key part of the overall story of James Gunn’s new DCU, the show comes from showrunner Chris Mundy, alongside writers Damon Lindelof and Tom King. Also expected to appear on the show is Nathan Fillion, who plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman feature film. It will run eight, hour long episodes and presumably premiere some time in late 2025, or early 2026.
