Daredevil goes Red Band for new series.
This is Comic Book Club News for September 19, 2024.
Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Snotgirl Returns This December:
2024 has been a year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim over at Oni Press. But the creator is closing out the year by returning to one of his other creations: Snotgirl returns this December from Image Comics.
Written by O’Malley with art by Leslie Hung, allergy-plagued fashion influencer Lottie Person is back with Snotgirl #16. In the issue she’s in a relationship with Caroline, the girl of her dreams, and… Well that’s pretty much all the info Image provided.
Said O’Malley, “This comic has been cave-aged for four years until the crystalline structures are perfect. It will have an incredible mouthfeel.” Added Hung, “Finally, some good food.”
The issue will have a main cover by Hung, with a variant by O’Malley & Rachael Cohen. It will hit stores on December 4, 2024.
Alien: Paradiso Sends The Xenomorphs To A Resort In New Marvel Miniseries:
If anyone deserves a vacation, it’s those rascally xenomorphs from the Alien series. They work hard, and they play hard. And now they’ll get the chance to chillax in Marvel’s upcoming Alien: Paradiso.
Written by Steve Foxe with art by Edgar Salazar and Peter Nguyen, the five-issue miniseries takes place on a space colony called Paradiso, filled with a tropical climate, white sands, and plenty of criminals. Two Colonial Marshals are sent there to bust a smuggling ring, but the only thing they’ll be busting is open once the aliens attack.
Said Foxe: “With Romulus taking the franchise back to its roots in many respects, I wanted to make sure we were offering readers a story they couldn’t find anywhere else. Setting our tale on the sun-kissed shores of a high-end beach resort populated by underhanded criminals, undercover marshals, and underpaid employees immediately spun us in a new direction.”
Another new direction? While Salazar will draw the bulk of the story, the issues will feature pages from the xenomorph’s perspective, drawn by Nguyen. I bet they make some really interesting points!
Alien: Paradiso #1 hits stores on December 11.
Daredevil: Unleash Hell Red Band Series Coming From Marvel:
Marvel’s latest adults-only Red Band series? Daredevil: Unleash Hell.
The five-issue miniseries is written by Erica Schultz, with art by Valentina Pinti, and will find the Elektra version of Daredevil tackling a grisly crime spree across New York City.
Said Schultz: “It’s been such a pleasure to continue writing Elektra, especially donning the horns. In this new series, we have the opportunity to show that just because she doesn’t kill doesn’t mean she won’t make you wish she had. Elektra has been known for her brutality, and we’ll see that on display here. Also, with a Red Band rating, that means we can get real nasty with stuff. Don’t know what I mean? You will.”
The first issue hits stores on January 8, 2025.
