Batman Is Getting A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame:
Batman Day, the anniversary of the debut of the character in Detective Comics #27, is this Saturday. But the Dark Knight will get a second day of celebration this month when Batman is given the 2,790th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, on September 26.
While Batman isn’t the first fictional character to get a star — Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, and The Muppets all have stars, to name a few — he is the first superhero to get the honor. The star will be next to the one for TV’s Batman, Adam West, and Batman co-creator Bob Kane.
As part of the event DC’s president, publisher, and chief creative officer, Jim Lee, and DC’s senior vice president and general manager, Anne DePies will attend, and Batman will be awarded a Guinness World Records title for being the first superhero with a star. Following the event, which will be held at 11:30 am PT, Lee will hold a one-hour meet and greet and signing for Batman fans at Funko Hollywood.
And just to throw it out there, this is the perfect time to finally unmask the Batman, once and for all. Ha, ha, ha!
Marvel And Fortnite Variant Covers Coming This November:
Marvel is teaming up with Fortnite this season of the game for a new event titled Absolute Doom. As part of the game event, not only are there special Marvel character Outfits, but there are also crossover Outfits combining Marvel characters and Fortnite characters. And guess what? Those crossover characters are getting their own variant covers from Marvel comics.
Here are the outfits, per PR provided by Marvel: Peelverine (Wolverine and Peely), Meowtooth (Sabretooth and Meowscles), Captain Jones (Captain America and Agent Jones), and Ghost Ri-Durr (Ghost Rider and Durr Burger). I know what all of that means, no questions or follow-ups on my end!
Anyway, the covers will also be used for in-game, unlockable loading screens, with art by Iban Coello, Afu Chan, and Epic Games.
You can snag the Absolute Doom covers starting November 6.
Dan Didio Stopped Marvel And DC Crossovers:
Wondering why there are no more Marvel and DC crossovers? The reason is former DC EIC Dan Didio.
Per Popverse, Didio was at Tampa Bay Comic Convention this past weekend. There, he explained two reasons why he shut down the semi-regular crossovers between the companies.
Said Didio, “When you’re in competition with other places you have to have pride in your own work, and you have to believe in your own material. The only reason I’m crossing over is if I’m having really bad sales or there is a problem with the market. If I have to rely on other companies to prop my characters up, then I’m in bigger trouble than I thought.
“My second reason was, after that comes out, what do you do next? After you cross that over and you get that big moment, you’re still back in the same place you were beforehand, and now it seems less special, because you just removed so many other things away from it.”
So there it is, then. Didio left the company in 2020. And as previously reported here on the podcast, two DC vs. Marvel omnibuses are hitting stores soon, now planned on being available on October 8. If they sell well, will we get to see the company’s cross over again? Or will Didio’s warnings hold for the new administration? Stay tuned.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And it was only through superhuman restraint that I didn’t read that quote with a Dan Didio impression. Please clap.
