The first social reactions for the Agatha All Along are here! The MCU show held its premiere last night in LA, and with the embargo lifted, critics and fans are taking to social media to express just what they thought of the first four episodes (of nine) of the series. So has Marvel conjured up another hit? Or are they getting ready to burn it at the stake?
Jamie Jirak loved the series, “I’ve seen the first four eps of Agatha All Along, and it’s everything I hoped it would be and more. Spooky good fun!” However, she warned that, “It won’t be for everyone, but if you’ve been excited, you’re gonna be so happy. I haven’t been this jazzed since WandaVision.”
Rachel Leishman of The Mary Sue also loved it, stating, “Must be the season of the witch, baby! #AgathaAllAlong is the perfect continuation of Westview and everything my witchy soul needed. A perfect blend of Marvel lore for the witchy season and I cannot wait to see the rest of the series! I, too, want to go down to the Witches Road.”
Alex Zalben, who is me, loved the first four episodes, writing, “Loved them. Perfect witchy vibes, a fantastic cast, some real spooky moments and slowly creeping emotion as well. Kathryn Hahn is superb as Agatha. Aubrey Plaza is incredible as Rio. You are going to ship the two of them so hard.”
Amelia Emberwing of IGN also “quite enjoyed” the episodes, saying, “I had a lot of concerns heading into #AgathaAllAlong, but I am thrilled to report that this witch has quite enjoyed what she’s seen so far. I’m having a ton of fun theorizing already, and I really hope it sticks the landing!”
Jenna Anderson of ComicBook called it a “delight” adding, “The first four episodes are kooky, legitimately funny, and surprising on a comics/MCU level. Dynamite performances across the board. I can’t wait to see more. Unsurprisingly, the show works best when the entire coven is together.”
Some reviewers weren’t totally enthused with the show, though. Eric Goldman wrote that Agatha is “decent. Really dig premiere (and it’s very WandaVision vibes) but second ep is shaky tonally. Begins to find itself more in 3 & 4. Will predictably make guys who demand “badass” as the only setting to scream ‘Woke!’ and cry like babies.”
And Brandon Davis thought it had a “slow start,” but noted it “gets rolling by Ep. 2’s end. It’s more mature & spookier than expected! Stakes! Kathryn Hahn & Aubrey Plaza are fantastic, especially together. I fear the middle may be redundant but I hope it stays so engaging & fun. Enjoyed the first 4!”
Full reviews for Agatha All Along will drop when the show premieres on September 18 at 9 pm ET.
