HBO, as well as Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform Max, are getting ready to hit this year’s New York Comic Con (NYCC 2024) in a big way. In addition to the previously announced panel for Dune: Prophecy, the network will also be showcasing The Penguin, Creature Commandos, and The Franchise.
The Penguin is the main event on Thursday, October 17 with an “extended sneak peek” and appearances by Colin Farrell, Crsitin Miloti, Clancy Brown, and more. At that point the series will be four episodes in (out of eight), so smart money would expect that extended look to be a trailer teasing the “explosive second half of the season.” However, while showrunner Lauren LeFranc will be on hand, without Matt Reeves present — unless there’s a surprise — don’t expect any big teases for The Batman Part II.
As for Creature Commandos, that’s another story entirely. James Gunn will be taking time off from working on Superman to attend the panel for the DCU animated series. Also in attendance are the EP of the animated series Dean Lorey, and cast members Frank Grillo, David Harbour, Zoë Chao, Steve Agee, and Sean Gunn. While it’s likely the footage and focus will mainly be on Creature Commandos, this is the first big panel Gunn has anchored since the announcement of the DCU. So chances are there may be some surprises beyond the animated Max series.
