The new trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has arrived online. And with it, another wild look at what Sony is teasing is the final Venom movie. Not only that, it includes a look at the real, surprise villain of the film, too… Knull, also known as The King in Black.
The whole trailer is predictably wild as Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the Venom symbiote ride a plane from the outside, battle symbiote monsters including a symbiote frog, and even turn a horse into Venom. But the real plot of the movie is revealed when it turns out that Venom’s people have arrived on Earth — and we get a glimpse of just what that means.
That comes when we see the Klyntar, the real name of the symbiotes, wandering their terrifying, mostly barren planet. And ruling over them is Knull, the leader and creator of the symbiotes. Created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, and first introduced in full in Marvel Comics’ Venom #3 from 2018, Knull is the ultimate bad dude. He’s got stringy white hair, a terrifying smile, and can control all symbiotes… Including Venom, who at least in the books he wants to reintegrate into the hive.
That all spun out into a massive crossover titled King in Black which was published in 2020, and changed the Venom mythos forever. Basically, as seen in the trailer, symbiotes invade Earth, led by Knull, and prepare to turn it into a new Klyntar homeworld.
There’s also, for what it’s worth, a strong connection to the All-Black and Gorr the God Butcher, the character played by Christian Bale in Thor: Love and Thunder. But since that movie is Marvel Studios through Disney, and this is a Sony movie in association with Marvel… Well, if they mention it at all, expect it to be confusing, at best.

The film is directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay she wrote, based on a story by Hardy and Marcel.
