Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) died at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, flattened like a pancake… Right? What this report presupposes is: what if Scarlet Witch didn’t die? Or rather, what if Marvel, along with two of the key figures behind WandaVision and Agatha All Along, are working on a Scarlet Witch feature film? A new piece of info seems to indicate that might be the case, so let’s discuss.
The news comes from Production Weekly. Which, the usual caveat here, the weekly is a collection of contact info for behind-the-scenes creatives to reach out about potential jobs. The info is openly not vetted, so often things are nothing but rumors that have popped up online. However, they get things right, as well. Take, for example, the casting of James Spader in the upcoming Vision series, which was revealed via Production Weekly well before hitting the trades.
That all said, this week’s issue has a listing for a Scarlet Witch feature film. And even more intriguing, the online magazine says it’s being written by Jac Schaeffer and Megan McDonnell. If you don’t know, Schaeffer is the creator of WandaVision and Agatha All Along. She also wrote episodes for both series. And she also crafted the story for Black Widow and helped develop the Vision series before shifting her attention full-time to Agatha. McDonnell, meanwhile, wrote on both WandaVision and Agatha All Along, as well being credited as co-writer on The Marvels.
Point being, the duo is very much in the Marvel Studios stable. And beyond that, they know the world of Wanda Maximoff pretty well from working on two series revolving in different aspects around here. Adding fuel to the fire, PW lists the status as “2026.” Given Agatha All Along is debuting shortly, and Vision, the third part of the trilogy of series that began with WandaVision, is expected to be filming sometime in 2025, it makes sense that Marvel could follow up with a Scarlet Witch movie sometime the next year, in 2026.
But would Olsen return to the role? Yes, she would. Or at least, if the conditions were right. Speaking with FM104 via Collider, Olsen said, “It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well. I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there… if there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back.”
So all the potential pieces are in place. This could be nothing, or it could be something. At the very least, I feel confident in saying that if this is accurate, the fans definitely want it — and this is the right writing team to take it on. Let’s hex that Scarlet Witch movie into reality.
