Houses Of The Unholy Tops The August Graphic Novel Sales Charts:
Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’s Houses of the Unholy topped the August graphic novel sales charts, per ICv2. No surprise here, as every novel from the team is a hit — and this one hit number one on both the units sold and dollars earned charts.
However, hot on its heels is the DC Compact Comics line. While the publisher continues to struggle in single issues, when it comes to collections they’re dominating the market. Compact Comics collections filled out the rest of the top five, including Batman: Hush, Batman: The Court of Owls, Wonder Woman: Earth One, and All-Star Superman.
That pushed perennial bestseller TMNT: The Last Ronin to number six on the chart of units sold. However, on dollars earned it held strong at number two.
The rest of the top ten on units sold was also DC, with the exception of Rare Flavours from BOOM! Studios at number 10. And Marvel only grabbed three slots on the list, for G.O.D.S., Avengers Twilight, and Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.
Head Lopper Heads To Kickstarter:
Head Lopper? Meet Kickstarter. Per SKTCHD, Andrew MacLean’s excellent adventure series about a guy who likes to lop off heads is getting a spinoff comic on the crowd-funding platform.
Titled Agatha: A Tale of Three Witches, the standalone prequel comic focuses on the witch’s head Head Lopper carries around with him in the main book — now with a whole body at her disposal. The plot finds Agatha visiting another witch in the forest and then returns home to find another witch in her own house. Hence the three witches of the title. No word on whether there will be any head or other extremity lopping in this comic, so stay tuned.
The book is currently on Kickstarter and has already been funded as of this recording. You can nab a digital or physical copy of the comic for $10 until September 25.
Marvel’s Alien Romulus Comic Gets An Explicit Content Rating:
Marvel’s Alien Romulus comic has been changed from a Parental Advisory rating to an Explicit Content rating, per Bleeding Cool. The change was sent to retailers and is a label otherwise only applied to books like Get Fury and Miracleman, and Marvel’s Red Band line for adults only.
Written by Zac Thompson with art by Daniel Picciotto, the book is a prequel to the movie currently in theaters and seeks to delve further into a specific mystery left open by the film, working with Director Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues. As for the contents of the book itself, those most likely haven’t changed — Marvel just realized they were releasing an Alien comic, so you know. Better be careful.
Alien: Romulus will hit comic book shops on October 16, around the same time the movie is expected to hit streaming.
