On October 9, Marvel will introduce a new breed of mutant hunters into the comic book universe in Sentinels #1. In advance of the issue written by Alex Paknadel with art by Justin Mason, the publisher has released a series of character cards delving into what to expect from the anti-heroes.
Those main characters? Drumfire, Lockstep, Sawtooth, Shellback, and Voivod. They’re all working out of Graymalkin Prison, aka the new name for Xavier’s Westchester Mansion. And each of them has suffered in mutant-related incidents in the middle of Marvel’s previous big events. So they’ve got an axe to grind with the mutant population. With sentiment turned against the X-Men post-Krakoa, they may be seen as the conquering heroes in a way that our comic book heroes currently are not.
Read on to check out the character cards and find out more about their origins, below.
Drumfire:
Drumfire is Patricia Pham. Her mother as killed during Onslaught, and she’s been in a coma since King in Black. So she’s definitely not a fan of mutants — or symbiotes, probably. Her powers include heat absorption and energy manipulation.
Lockstep:
Lockstep, aka Bradley Hanson, has the power of technology hijacking. He was hospitalized after exposure to radioactive material during the Death of Doctor Strange storyline.
Sawtooth:
Camila Rivera is Sawtooth, a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who resigned during Secret Empire. So maybe she’s the most reasonable of this bunch? Due to nanotech upgrades, she can convert matter into her own armor.
Shellback:
Michael Babineaux is Shellback, and he suffered third-degree burns during the War of the Realms. Now he can “disassemble molecular structure into a liquid state.” So he can turn into a puddle.
Voivod:
Voivod is the ominously named Dragos Teodorescu. He can self-detonate, followed by rapidly healing, and was injured during World War Hulk.
