The premiere date and episode count for Creature Commandos, the first show from James Gunn’s new DCU, have been officially announced by Max.
The animated series will run seven episodes, and debut on Thursday, December 5. One episode will premiere per week until the Season 1 finale on January 16. Written and executive produced by Gunn, the series “tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.”
And the voice cast is a who’s who of stars. Some are returning from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1; others are brand new to the DCU. They are Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
The goal is for anyone in the animated series to potentially show up in live action in the DCU going forward. And in fact, we already know that Frank Grillo will be popping up in the flesh in the currently in production Peacemaker Season 2.
Creature Commandos is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Additional executive producers include Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register. Rick Morales serves as a supervising producer. You can check out a new image of Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, at the top of the article.
