It’s Back to School time! But for Marvel Comics, it’s business as usual in September 2024, with a slew of new comics to check out. And we’ve got our picks for the best of the best, the must-add to your comic book haul, here.
Those range from multiple Spider-Mans to multiple Wolverines, and maybe even some titles that don’t have Spider-Man or Wolverine. So without further ado, here are the 13 best Marvel Comics coming out in September 2024, presented in chronological release order.
1. Ultimates #4
Release Date: September 4, 2024
Writer Deniz Camp has been hyping this issue up online, so paint me intrigued. It flashes back in time to show what happened to the Fantastic Four in the new, Ultimate Universe. And in particular focuses on Doctor Doom — aka, Reed Richards.
2. Star Wars: The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1
Release Date: September 4, 2024
Given the unfortunate cancellation of The Acolyte, fans may need to console themselves with this one-shot, written by Cavan Scott with art by Marika Cresta, which delves into the backstory of the murdered Wookiee from the series.
3. Exceptional X-Men #1
Release Date: September 4, 2024
If you’ve been missing a young X-Men/teacher-student dynamic in a title, here’s Exceptional X-Men! Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost team up to teach a new generation of students, whether they like it or not.
4. Wolverine #1
Release Date: September 11, 2024
A new Wolverine book? Finally, Marvel is giving some shine to an underrated character with a solo title of his own. Just kidding, but this back-to-basics book by Saladin Ahmed and Martin Coccolo finds Logan in a fit of berserker rage.
5. The Uncanny X-Men #2
Release Date: September 11, 2024
The best title out of the “From the Ashes” relaunch of the X-Men line continues this month with two issues, with the second released on September 25.
6. Star Wars #50
Release Date: September 11, 2024
The final, oversized issue of Marvel’s long-running Star Wars comic flashes to bearded teacher Luke imparting a lesson from his younger days to a kid named Ben Solo. What could go wrong? 7. Avengers Assemble #1
Release Date: September 11, 2024
If you’ve been missing a classic Avengers in the Mansion-style series, this one is for you. By which I mean, it is for me. Steve Orlando and Cory Smith anchor the miniseries which finds Captain America having such a good time during Blood Hunt with his ragtag team, he decides to create his own Avengers Unlimited, essentially.
8. Spirits of Vengeance #1
Release Date: September 18, 2024
There are a lot of Ghost Riders. So what if they were all in one comic book? That’s the essential idea here, as writer Sabir Pirzada takes over ol’ flame head for the foreseeable future.
9. Deathlok 50th Anniversary Special #1
Release Date: September 18, 2024
Denys Cowan (among others) returns to the cyborg time traveler, which is neat in and of itself. But Marvel is also promising a big surprise at the end of this anniversary celebration. Given — spoilers — the Iron Fist special, uh, killed Iron Fist, it’ll be interesting to see what the publisher has up its sleeves here.
10. Dazzler #1
Release Date: September 18, 2024
Sadly just a four-issue miniseries, but Dazzler breaks out on her own for the first time in decades from Jason Loo and Rafael Loureiro. Neat!
11. Wolverine: Revenge #2
Release Date: September 25, 2024
After the wild debut of this series from Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo, issue #2 is a must-pick-up. Wolverine isn’t just going after his biggest enemies, he’s also looking to take down Deadpool and Colossus as well. How will the second issue amp things up further? I can’t wait to find out.
12. Ultimate Spider-Man #9
Release Date: September 25, 2024
It’s a double-Hickman Wednesday at Marvel with the release of the latest issue of Ultimate Spider-Man. Here, Spidey comes face to face with the Ultimate Sinister Six. There’s a lot going on in this title, and it seems like even more is coming down on Peter’s head.
13. Amazing Spider-Man #58
Release Date: September 25, 2024
Moving over to regular Spider-Man, Zeb Wells’s final arc on the series kicks off with a synopsis where Marvel teases, “The most visceral issues in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN history begin here!” Okay, prove it.
