Agatha All Along
Release Date: September 18, 2024
Streaming On: Disney+
The belated spinoff from WandaVision finally arrives, just in time for spooky season. It stars Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, still reeling from her battle with Scarlet Witch, who aims to get her power back by teaming up with some other witches (Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Patti LuPone) and a mysterious Teen (Joe Locke) and traveling The Witch’s Road. Two episodes stream at launch, with episodes then rolling out one a week for nine, total.
The Penguin
Release Date: September 19, 2024
Streaming On: HBO/Max
Speaking of belated spinoffs, years after the debut of The Batman, Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oswald Cobblepot in a series that bridges the first movie and the still-in-development The Batman Part II. The show chronicles The Penguin’s rise to Gotham City crime boss and also stars Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly, Carmen Ejogo, and Clancy Brown. The first episode airs at 9 pm ET on HBO, and streams simultaneously on Max. The show will then move to Sundays at 9 pm ET, starting on September 29, for the remainder of the eight episodes.
Uzumaki
Release Date: September 28, 2024
Streaming On: Adult Swim/Max
Airing at 12:30 am on Toonami (and then streaming on Max the next morning), Uzumaki is a horror anime based on the manga by Junji Ito. The English dub version will stream the following Thursday, if subtitles are distracting you too much from the gross tongues, spinning eyeballs, and people clipping the tips of their fingers off.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book Of Carol
Release Date: September 29, 2024
Streaming On: AMC/AMC+
The second season of the hit Walking Dead spinoff finds Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) still in France, and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) desperately trying to find her friend. Episodes stream at 3 am ET on AMC+ before debuting on AMC at 9 pm on Sundays, so stay offline if you don’t want spoilers.
Superman & Lois
Release Date: October 7, 2024
Streaming On: The CW
The final season of the last Arrow-verse show standing airs back-to-back episodes, and it’s missing one of the title characters: Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) is dead, thanks to a fight with Doomsday. Sadly, as we all know from the comic books, Superman stays dead forever after that. Anyway, there are 10 episodes total in the abbreviated season, which also jettisoned several regular cast members. Episodes should stream on The CW website and app the next day after air.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Release Date: November 2, 2024 (TBC)
Streaming On: Disney+
While Disney+ and Marvel Studios have yet to officially announce a premiere date, a filing with the US Copyright Office shows that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will premiere on November 2. The animated series presents a revamped origin for Spider-Man, as Doctor Strange and Venom pop out from a multiverse wormhole and drop a spider on Peter. And driving home this isn’t in the MCU, Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) becomes his mentor. The exact episode count and other details are TBA, but a second season is already in the works.
Harley Quinn Season 5
Release Date: November, 2024
Streaming On: Max
Though no exact date has been shared for the return of Max’s animated Harley Quinn series, star Kaley Cuoco revealed it will hit in November, back at San Diego Comic-Con. The new season will find Harley (Cuoco) and Ivy (Lake Bell) moving to Metropolis, with Bane (James Adomanian) getting a job at the Daily Planet.
Creature Commandos
Release Date: December 5, 2024
Streaming On: Max
The animated monster mash-up is the first official release from DC Studios in James Gunn’s new DCU, and finds Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) pivoting from Suicide Squad to Monster Squad. The show stars the voices of Steve Agee, Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoë Chao, Frank Grillo, Sean Gunn, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, and Indira Varma, all of whom would be expected to play their roles in live-action, if needed. The season will run seven episodes weekly through January 16.
