‘TMNT: Mutant Nation’ Pays Homage To ‘X-Men’ #1, Too

X-Men parodies: they’re all the rage! From Marc Silvestri homaging his own cover to Uncanny X-Men #1 on Witchblade #3, to the Valiant Universe parodying X-Men #1 with their November covers, it’s what’s hot this Fall. But wait, there’s more! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Nation #1 will also pay homage to X-Men #1 with a series of interconnecting covers by Michael Calero.

“It’s great anytime we get to collaborate with a publisher we admire and respect but to fulfill a nearly lifelong dream of drawing the TMNT characters has made this project special,” Calero, CEO/Co-Publisher, Massive Publishing, said via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “In one cover I’m getting to show my love and appreciation for the two biggest influences I had as a kid learning to draw comics; The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the X-Men.”

The four-piece connecting cover is being limited to 500 bundles from Massive Select, an imprint of Massive Publishing. The book itself spins out of the “Armageddon Game” arc. And it aims to show different sides of IDW’s TMNT universe than Jason Aaron’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mutant Nation won’t hit stores until September 18, but the Massive bundles are available now for pre-order for a discounted price.

Check ’em all out, below. Mutant Nation #1 is written by Tom Waltz, with art by Vincenzo Federici.
