Fantastic Four and Amazing Fantasy head to auction.

Is Rob Liefeld on Thundarr The Barbarian?

Clementine Book Three is coming in 2025.

This is Comic Book Club News for August 27, 2024.

Fantastic Four #1 And Amazing Fantasy #15 Head To Auction:

The latest high-end comic book auction? Fantastic Four #1 and Amazing Fantasy #15.

Per ICv2, a 9.6 graded copy of the introduction of the Fantastic Four, and a 9.0 graded copy of the first appearance of Spider-Man will hit auction via Heritage Auctions at their Signature Auction on September 12-15, 2024.

The copy of Fantastic Four #1 is the highest grade ever to hit auction. Previously, a 9.2 graded version sold for $1.5 million dollars in 2022, so expect this to fetch a lot more — particularly with a new movie coming next year. Meanwhile, a 9.6 graded copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 went for $3.6 million in 2021, so it will be interesting to see how this lower-graded copy does by comparison.

In addition, John Buscema’s original cover art for 1988’s Wolverine #1 is currently up for auction, and already at $90,000 as of this recording.

Will another comic book auction record be set next month? Stay tuned.

Is Rob Liefeld On Dynamite’s Thundarr The Barbarian Comic?

Yesterday, we connected two and two and either made four or made applesauce, depending. Or roughly translated, after reporting that writer/artist Rob Liefeld dropped the name “Thundarr” regarding properties he was interested in tackling, we guessed that he could be connected to Dynamite’s comic book based on the property.

When reached for comment, while Dynamite couldn’t confirm any creative on the book at this time, they did say, “We do have a huge name that we expect to be attached.”

Is this thin news? Sure. But to lay it out for you, Liefeld has been interested in adapting the classic for years. Back in 2019, he revealed that he had been talking to DC Comics, which held the rights at the time, about adapting the classic animated series. However, “that went nowhere fast,” according to Liefeld.

Cut to this past year’s San Diego Comic-Con, when Dynamite announced they’re publishing the first ever Thundarr the Barbarian comic with their current licensing deal with Warner Bros. Discovery that thus far has yielded ThunderCats, Powerpuff Girls, Space Ghost, and Jonny Quest. No creatives were attached, but Liefeld teased in regards to his retirement from working with Marvel that he’d like to turn his attention to dream projects like Thundarr.

So will the “huge name” Dynamite teases turn out to be Liefeld? And if not, how mad will Liefeld be? Stay tuned on this one, too.

Clementine Book Three Is Coming In 2025:

Are you ready to say goodbye to Clementine, again? The beloved Walking Dead character was the star of TellTale’s hit game series. Then she was featured in a series of graphic novels from writer/artist Tillie Walden. And now those graphic novels are ending with Clementine Book Three, which will be released in 2025.

Per a press release provided by Skybound Comet, “Clementine finally has it all–a safe place to live, a girlfriend, and even a cat…but nothing lasts forever. And when Clementine suffers a loss unlike anything she’s ever faced, a new mentor called The Gardener offers her a new family, and a new way of living… but at what cost?”

Said Walden, “Clementine Book 3 is one of the darkest and most interesting stories I’ve ever written. I’m so excited for everyone to be able to be with Clementine as her story comes to a close!”

The final book in the trilogy will hit stores in June of 2025.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I’ve got a copy of Fantastic Four Annual #2 that’s basically dust, how much is that worth do you think?
